I wasn’t expecting to read The Knight and the Moth by Rachel Gillig. The cover just didn’t do much for me honestly. I ended up reading it for my online book club and I’m glad I did!
It took a bit for me to get into the storyline but I persevered for the book club. I had a bad feeling that nothing good was happening to the Diviners. I did think that Six was smarter than she was behaving. She let Rory get under her skin way too quickly and way too deeply.
Touring the kingdom took up some time and kept me entertained. I was a little concerned about what would happen once they had completed their mission. I was running out of pages. When I started reading the book I had no idea it was not a standalone. Once I knew it was more than one book, the panic subsided.
We got a ton of information in the last 50 pages. It was a lot to take in. I just want to throw in that the gargoyle was my favorite character! I loved that he called everyone Bartholomew and the story that he had to share was so unbearably sad. I was listening to this once everything started unraveling and had to rewind because my ears zoned out. When I confirmed I had indeed heard what I had thought I heard, I needed to get eyeballs on the page.
A lot of people would say that waiting until the last 50 pages to be fully vested in a story is too long but endings frequently seal the deal for me. The story was pleasant and kept me interested. The ending left me needing to know what happened. I gave The Knight and the Moth 5 stars….and I hope Benji fully understands what he has put into motion. Once the second book is available for preorder, I’ll definitely be doing so.
