The Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news; a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.

Sunday:

We didn’t get to bed until 2:30 this morning. My father-in-law’s celebration of life was so bittersweet. We had a lot of people show up despite the 111 degree heat index. He’s going to be terribly missed. After we got home Hubby and I both took a 2 hour nap on the couch despite our best intentions to get stuff done around the house. Our sleep schedule is horribly off now. Fixing it is going to be fun. We were getting ready to lay down at 11 PM to go to sleep when we lost power. Hubs went out and got the generator hooked up. Considering how hot it was we were both grateful to still be able to have fans. The power came back on about an hour and a half later. So we didn’t really get to bed until around 1 AM.

Monday:

Today was predictably rough. The idea of “returning to normal” is offensive to me but I know that this is part of it. The power outage this morning didn’t help. I got up and got my food ready for the day. I had my new backpack/purse packed and ready to go this morning. (I love it and don’t think I’ll ever go back to a normal purse. Even after school.) I was still 10 minutes late to work.

I’m currently in Intermediate Accounting I and it is tough but so much fun! I guess I can tell that I’m going into the right major. Today I prepared an income statement and adjusting entries and classified accounts on both the income statement and balance sheet. I’m also starting to get stuff done around the house. I gathered up all the mail from the last month that I haven’t dealt with and got my laundry done. I’m also prepping my food for tomorrow tonight. I made Zach Coen’s (TikTok: @zachcoen) Nutella Baked Oats from his Patreon service and I cannot WAIT to try them tomorrow! I’ll report back to let you know how they were. I read The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson for 30 minutes before bed.

Tuesday:

Oh my goodness! Those Nutella Baked Oats are so good. I think I’m going to really enjoy blending my oats. It gives it a more cake like texture! I attended my WW meeting and I was so glad I went. I forget how encouraging they can be.

I was surprised by how quickly I was able to catch up in IAI today. I ended up taking the first of two tests for this class tonight. I passed! It looks like I’ll be able to have this done by Saturday after all! My anxiety did spike hard before the test. As stressed as I’ve been lately, I can’t say I’m surprised. Now I’m going to celebrate my pass with a little extra reading time before bed!

Wednesday:

Yeah, totally did not read before bed. The exhaustion of the weekend is catching up with me. Today I had not one, but two Monsters. I could not stop yawning at work. I slept my normal amount of time but I don’t think I slept well. This morning was a disaster and today ended up being a take out day. Tonight when I got home, I unloaded and loaded the dishwasher and got all my food ready and in containers for tomorrow. No excuses.

I had an Engage meeting tonight. It’s this nice program that a not-for-profit puts on for newcomers to the city. I’ve been here for a few years now but with COVID and everything I was still able to join the program. It’s so much fun meeting other people who haven’t lived their whole lives here! I finished a module on the time value of money (hello annuities!) for school tonight. I’m getting back into my grove. Now it’s only 9 PM and I can barely keep my eyes open. I’m going to curl up in bed and read for as long as I can and then start to catch up on sleep!

Thursday:

I blew off all my responsibilities tonight and some nights that’s just needed. I can still make my goal date for this class with a little extra effort on Saturday. I got completely sucked into The Box in the Woods and finished it tonight. It was bliss. I’m not sure what I’m going to read now. I’m still so tired from the last month and a half. This coming weekend we have decided that we are resting and resetting.

Friday:

I had my yearly eye doctor appointment today. I had my eyes dilated and I forget how much that sucks. Trying to pay for services and schedule the next appointment without being able to focus up close is super fun! But I got my contacts ordered for the next year. I had to take my lunch early and that made the afternoon long. We were all ready to bolt at quitting time! I came home and tried to start some schoolwork but wasn’t doing well. I decided to give up and start what will hopefully be many naps this weekend. I took a two hour nap. Not always a great idea after 5 o’clock but it’s now almost 10 and I am planning on settling down in bed to read for a bit before going back to sleep.

Saturday:

Today was a mixed day of productivity and resetting. I worked through the remainder of my accounting I lessons and passed my pretest. I wasn’t confident enough to take the actual test tonight so I scheduled it for tomorrow at noon. I’ll use the morning to review. I also took two naps today. I knew this weekend was going to be more about catching up than about really accomplishing ALL THE THINGS. As weird as it feels, I’m ready to try to find some semblance of order again. The last month and a half was really hard and a constant whirlwind.

The Box in the Woods by Maureen Johnson

This book sucked me in and I loved it! On Thursday I abandoned all responsibilities and stayed up way too late to finish it!

How is your week shaping up? What exciting things are you reading?!

I generally don’t have issues getting to sleep. I don’t always get good quality sleep but usually amounts of sleep are not an issue. You have great week too!

    I’m so sorry for your loss. <3 After both my parents passed away, I had a hard time with the idea of "returning to normal" too. (I still have a hard time with it.) Take your time. There's no wrong way to grieve and everyone does it differently. {{{hugs}}}

Thank you! This came out of left field for us and we’re all still reeling a bit. For some reason, even at 37, my brain just doesn’t want to compute forever. Big hugs right back!

That was one rough-ass week and little sleep and too much heat doesn’t help. Like last night when I was too warm but couldn’t drag myself out of bed to turn the ceiling fan on. LOL

Sorry for the loss of your father-in-law. 🙁

I hate getting my eyes dilated.

    Nutella oats look delicious!

It really was!! This last month and a half kicked my family’s tail and then some. We’re all trying to recover now. No the heat is nice to a point and then it’s just mean. Oh no! I can’t sleep hot at all. I get really cranky! I hope it cools down for you.

Thank you. I’m really going to miss my true-crime buddy.

They really were! I’m definitely going to blend my oats from now on!

I’m glad to see you are making changes that work for you. I love Accounting and I understood all the things you said. I know I could have finished school faster for some classes if I could just do the work and move on when I was finished. My daughter is doing online all the time now since covid and it works for her but her school has the classes in a structure and she doesn’t get all the assignments until the week of the class so she can’t work ahead really. I’m glad to see you are doing some reading you enjoy!

Me too! The last few days I didn’t follow those new changes and it showed so back to them! Accounting is a lot of fun for me once I understand what I’m doing and that can be challenging! My community college that I took a few courses at was the same as your daughter’s. It was on-line but, depending on the instructor, we could work ahead or only work on what they had released for that week.

I’m hoping to be around a bit more as things have settled down a little bit. (I don’t want the universe to notice! lol!)
