The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Kimberly at Caffeinated Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news; a post to recap the past week on your blog and showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead.
I’ve decided to break my day out into the three major areas that I like talking about and you can pick and choose which you want to read.
Life: We went out for pizza tonight. I ordered a pizza that would have jalapeños on it. I like a good spicy pizza and there was an option to make it hotter. I’m not sure how you make something more spicy that already makes it incredibly difficult to eat. I thought the peppers would be sprinkled over the pizza. In one 2″ X 4″ piece there were 5 jalapeños, seeds and all. Most of it came home with me where I will have to remove the majority of the peppers before I can eat it.
School: Today I started D072 Fundamentals for Success in Business. The first unit was all about ethics, what they are, and how that applies to organizations. It included things like greenwashing and whistleblowing. I got a bit miffed with two of the questions on the unit quiz because they were really opinions stated like questions. Example: if a company moves oversees and pays a higher wage than the prevailing wage are they legal and socially responsible or legal and socially irresponsible. The chapter specifically mentions wages AND working conditions. So in my mind the answer was legal and socially irresponsible. Taking care of one aspect doesn’t ensure the other is also met. I was wrong. Apparently they are socially responsible. I’m thinking of taking this up with my course instructor.
Bookish: Finally got back to reading after only getting in a chapter each day. I got in my chapter from Working with People I’d Like to Punch in the Throat. I also picked up Halfway to the Grave again and got a good bit read today. I’m still woefully behind on where I’m supposed to be for our buddy read. The good news is that I will be done by Friday for sure. Then I can catch up on my reading plan. I may need to adjust February’s goals. We shall see.
Life: It was freezing today! It was so cold in our office today that at one point a coworker put her stocking cap on. Our building was built in 1910 and I’m 99.9% positive we’re using the OG boiler. I came home and got the kitchen into a more usable space. It still needs some work. I’m very slooooooowly starting to find that work/life/school/enjoyment balance. Unfortunately a lot of it depends on starting on top of everything so it doesn’t get out of hand and therefore overwhelming. Speaking of I better scoot so I can get to work on time!
School: I finished unit 3 today and learned about the different types of organizational culture. The course instructors have determined that if you don’t pass the unit quizzes with at least a 90% then you won’t be ready for the final. These questions are tricky as a lot of them seem to be open to interpretation but there can only be one right answer. I took the quiz both times to get all the questions and I got a 100% on one and a 90% on the other. I’m gaining confidence in this course!
Bookish: I finished my first book of 2022 tonight. I was reading Halfway to the Grave by Jeaniene Frost in physical format and it was such an enjoyable experience. Both the book and physically holding the book and trying to figure out how it was all going to end in the next very clearly limited amount of pages. And now I can’t wait to read the second one! I’m still reading one chapter a day from Working with People I Want to Punch in the Throat by Jen Mann.
Life: I am so ready for Friday. I’ve been reading federal grant guidelines for a grant we’ll be applying for. This document is 73 pages long. I had to break it up to make it more manageable. I forgot to mention yesterday that I also got in the first episode of This is Us and I can tell they aren’t going to hold any punches this season. Oof. It’s still bitterly cold here but starting tomorrow we’re supposed to have a little bit of a thaw. We’ll at least get double digit highs again!
School: Today’s unit was super simple! It really only took me about an hour and a half to complete. I plan on taking the final on Sunday and each new unit gives me a bigger boost of confidence. I think I’m developing a system for taking these courses. Per WGU the pacing for this course is 6 weeks; 1 unit per week. I’m not even sure how you take that long for this class and still retain the information from week 1. Either way, I did one unit per day and that seems to be working for me.
Bookish: I did not read a whole lot today. I tried to start The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren on audio but my ears were just not having any of it. I read about a chapter of that book and continued on in my chapter per day of Working with People I Want to Punch in the Throat which so far has been enjoyable.
Life: Today was a nice day. Hubs had to work this morning but I got a few chores done and worked on school while he was out. When he got home we went out for a nice lunch. We were also going to go to the local arcade but after lunch we were both full and maybe a little sleepy. And that arcade is seriously way too loud. We decided to come back another day for it. I bought a new controller for my Nintendo Switch and played some on the Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time. Nintendo really messed up the button layout and they are still out of stock of the N64 controller they were releasing. I think they seriously underestimated muscle memory of gamers since it’s most likely been decades since anyone used an N64 controller. Lol. After gaming I watched last Sunday’s episode of Yellowjackets. If you have Showtime I highly suggest this series. There are two episodes left this season and I need some answers! I did another module in my course and then a few more chores and snuggled into bed early with The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren.
School: Today was a really easy day. Today’s unit was on emotional intelligence. I didn’t need to retake any quizzes and hit all the learning checks. I finished what I needed to do by noon. Based on the number of videos for the next unit, later in the evening I decided I better crack into at least one of the modules. Again, I hit all my learning checks and aced the short 5 question quiz at the end of the module. Tomorrow (today, Sunday by the time you see it) I have one more module, 2 quizzes, a test prep video, the pre-assessment test, and finally the final for the whole class. It sounds like a lot but in total it’s maybe 3 hours on a weekend. Next week’s post will let you know if I passed or not!
Bookish: I dedicated a little more time this morning before starting my schoolwork to reading The Unhoneymooners. I only got in about another 20 pages but so far it’s alright. I can tell it’s going to read quickly. I’m hoping to hit the halfway point tonight. It’s going to be an early night for us and I’m A-okay with that. Tomorrow is going to be a very busy day between setting up my planners, meal prep, and coursework. I know by the end of the day I’ll be tired but satisfied.
I only read one book this week but it was great and I’m excited to be involved in another beloved series!
Not ONE thing. I am so proud of this!! It has become a very bad habit of mine to get bored and find a book to buy either digitally or have shipped to me. I still have some credit at a trade site and those may pop in over the course of the year but one week in and I’m loving my decision to focus on my TBR!
How is your week shaping up? What exciting things are you reading?!
