Oh my goodness I knew after reading Beach Read that I was going to pick up her next book. I was very excited to read People We Meet on Vacation with Lenore from Celebrity Readers and Lillian from Mom with a Reading Problem! As soon as I really was able to dig into it I couldn’t put it down.
This was one of the best friends to lover romances that I’ve ever read. Anytime someone will ask for a friends to lovers romance People We Meet on Vacation will be at the top of my recommendation list. I really adored the way that Henry took us back and forth throughout the storyline between the present and the past vacations Poppy and Alex took. Through most of the book I could only think “What in the heck happened in Croatia?!?!”
I loved Alex so very much. He and I share a lot of personality traits. I also loved how he was unquestionably there for Poppy. Alex is the kind of friend a person is so incredibly lucky to have. Poppy and I also share a few of characteristics as well. I love how she was so protective of Alex and that she brought him out of his shell. I also really loved how they vacationed together. I know that sounds odd but as a reader I was able to tell how much these vacations meant to them.
There were some great moments in People We Meet on Vacation. There are a few things that I now want to just randomly toss into conversation like “Too many wine!!” and “THEME MATTERS”. There was also a really great quote that described one of the things that I’ve sometimes felt and had no idea how to express:
“Who else do you think about being?” my dad said with his particular blunt fascination. The fear lessened, but the feeling never went away. Every once in a while, I’d roll it back out, poke at it. Wonder how I could ever stop feeling lonely when no one could ever know me all the way. When I could never peer into someone else’s brain and see it all.
The only thing that really kept this from being a 5 star read for me was that I felt like Croatia ended up being this Big Huge thing and then it really wasn’t. Or at least to me it wasn’t. The other issue for me is one that is my own personal hang up: I understand why things took the time they did to develop but as a reader I wish things had been just a little bit more quickly resolved.
I really, really enjoyed People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry. Lenore gave it 4.5 stars and Lillian gave it 5 stars. I’m definitely going to be picking up Henry’s next book. She has become an auto-buy author for me!
