Second Chance Pass by Robyn Carr

Summer Of Love

[book-info]

I was so excited to watch Season 3 of Virgin River and so…annoyed when it was over. I decided to remedy that by picking up the next book in the series: Second Chance Pass by Robyn Carr.

I really do enjoy reading these books. I like the idyllic place they are set and I enjoy the small town antics of Virgin River. I wish small towns were like this but having grown up in one, there is also a fair amount of drama and rumor mongering. BUT this is why we get to read fiction: we get to experience places that might not otherwise exist.

Usually a romance centers around a single couple. This one does but not entirely. Paul and Vanessa share probably 50% of their book with other couples and events taking place in Virgin River. This worked really well for me as I was happy to spend time with characters who’s happy endings we’ve got to see and the potential happy endings to come.

I was a little concerned when Paul and Vanessa’s storyline seemed to work out rather quickly. I honestly didn’t feel like it was rushed and it resolved nicely for me. I just couldn’t figure out what the rest of the story would be. There were a few things that developed and a threat to Virgin River. I’m even more intrigued about a man who appears to be shady. I’ve wondered all along if he wasn’t working undercover. I’m hoping I get an answer to that!

Not too long ago I had heard someone say that Carr spends a lot of time talking about and worshipping pregnancy, babies, bringing babies into the world. I had never really thought that or paid much attention to it. Unfortunately once it was pointed out I couldn’t “unsee” it. There did seem to be quite a lot of Miracle of Life talk with several different mothers or soon to be mothers. It didn’t detract from my enjoyment of Second Chance Pass but I definitely noticed it.

The only thing that kept this from being a 5 star read is that there was a lot going on!! I mean a lot going on. I’m hoping the next book slows things down a little bit. Overall the romance was resolved nicely for me and I’m definitely looking forward to the next book in the series!

  1. I’m reading the first book now for the tv/movie RAT. I’ve just started but it should be fun. I kind of like a lot going on, so this one might be the book for me. lol
