One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus {Stephanie’s Review}

[book-info]

One of Us is Lying by Karen M. McManus was one of COYERs January book club reads. This book has been on my TBR for awhile and I was excited to be able to get it read. Being able to discuss it with a group of people just makes the read that much better!

I really enjoy books told from multiple perspectives! I think it helps keep the pace moving. I’m always wondering what’s going on with everyone else while reading the current perspective. One of Us is Lying was no different.

I honestly felt completely misdirected. I had the mystery solved pretty early on because it was logical…BUT I felt for sure I had to be wrong based on the reception on book Twitter. In that sense I was constantly kept on my toes because I was looking for something different. I had the main part correct. That didn’t ruin the experience but the ending did throw me off quite a bit.

I honestly loved the four main characters in One of Us is Lying. I think Nate was genuinely my favorite. That might be because his high school experience was the closest to my own. I felt bad for all of them.

The great part about McManus’s writing is that all of them had stuff they’d rather forget….and Simon knew about it. This made them all just suspicious enough. Simon really was a douchebag of the highest order. One of the things that I really liked was how they all came together to try and solve what had happened.

One of Us is Lying is my first book by Karen McManus but it certainly won’t be my last. There were twists and turns and it was a fantastic ride.
