Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff {Stephanie’s Review}

[book-info]

I picked up Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff to continue the series. We started the series with Lifel1k3 for book club in May and I really enjoyed it. I knew it would be a series I would continue. I didn’t realize it would take me so long to pick up Dev1at3 though.

Dev1at3 had a weird pacing. There seemed to be a lot of stop and go action. One thing I really liked is that we moved more through the different characters. Kristoff spent time moving from the perspectives of Eve, Lemon, Ezekiel, and Cricket. The story was enhanced by being able to follow everyone.

I continue to be disappointed by Eve. She’s so much better than what she is right now. I also really like the fact that we’re learning more of the history of what happened before everything fell and became Eve’s present.

I have so many thoughts on the characters. I really don’t like Eve and I’m no longer sympathetic to her character. My heart hurts for Ezekiel. He’s caught between two very different people and his memories are now just as messed up as Eve’s are.

If there’s anyone who has my deepest sympathies, it’s Lemon Fresh. All she wants is for someone to love her. People, including Eve, just keep on leaving her. Poor Cricket I love that little bot. No matter the shell he’s in he’ll always look like a robotic version of Jimmy Cricket to me. Love him! The mention of honeycomb skin will forever break me out in goosebumps.

I’ll definitely finish the series but I didn’t like Dev1at3 by Jay Kristoff as much as I loved Lifelike. That doesn’t mean Dev1at3 wasn’t a really good read. I feel like Dev1at3 just fell under Lifel1k3’s shadow.

  1. I didn’t manage to do the May read and also did not read this series this year – and I wanted to read it. Hopefully soon!
