Hounded by Kevin Hearne {Stephanie’s Review}

Hounded by Kevin Hearne was picked as September’s COYER book club pick. Yet again we picked a book that has been on my TBR Pile for awhile. I love it when that happens.

I really liked Hounded. I don’t know why but I really wasn’t expecting to. I appreciated the Celtic lore and the battle between the Celtic gods. I thought the magic in Hounded was incredibly logical. There was only so much that Atticus could do with it and there were specific rules. The magic depleted and there was only so much Atticus could do to “refuel”. The pacing was good and never really dragged.

There were so many wonderful characters in this book. The great thing about Hearne’s writing style is that there were tons of characters and we had enough information to move on. He didn’t get bogged down telling us every minute detail of the characters’ lives. He gave us what we needed to enjoy the story. I really liked Atticus! Two of my favorite secondary characters were Oberon and Mrs. MacDonough. Both of them added so much to both Atticus’s character and to the story.

I haven’t seen many 5 star reads this year and Hounded by Kevin Hearne knocked it out of the park. I loved it. In closing I’ll leave my favorite quote from the book:

“I’ve never personally met him, but I have no doubt he’s around somewhere. Allah is doing his thing too, and so are Buddha and Shiva and the Morrigan and so on. The point is, Mrs. MacDonagh, that the universe is exactly the size that your soul can encompass. Some people live in extremely small words, and some live in a world of infinite possibility. You have just received some sensory input that suggests it’s bigger than you previously thought. What are you goin to do with that information? Will you deny it or embrace it?”

  1. Fabulous review! I enjoyed this so much. Luke Daniels is a star. I loved it more with the narration. I’m planning to read the whole series as a Read-along in 2023. I know so far away. Sigh.

    1. Thank you!! It is SO far away! I’m sure I can probably wait that long though. Goodness knows I’m horrible at series follow up.
