On Second Thought by Kristan Higgins *Stephanie’s Review*

[book-info]

It is absolutely no secret that I have a favorite author. I picked up On Second Thought by Kristan Higgins. I was thrilled to pick up a book by a favorite author right now. It 100% did not disappoint. In fact I was up until 1 am on a Tuesday morning so I could finish this one.

On Second Thought absolutely gutted me for pretty much the first half of the book. It was devastating on a few levels and there were times when I just wanted to sob. For me this was more of an emotional introduction than I’m used to from Higgins. I’m totally used to fantastic stories that will make me tear up. The first part of this book was really, really hard to get through. I stuck with it and it got so much better. After all these books, I can still be surprised by Higgins.

I really liked these characters. I also really hated a few. The style that Higgins used to tell her story kept me interested too. Ainsley and Kate alternate telling their stories. It offers different perspectives and methods of dealing with grief. I really wish I was like Ainsley. That girl is amazing but the truth is I’m probably more a Kate. There’s nothing wrong with that but I really thought Ainsley was a great character.

I went into On Second Thought expecting a good contemporary romance. I got that and so much more. I already know that this one will be re-read in the future!

  1. I also have really enjoyed this author and this story. Her later stories like this one I call Life Fiction as they are more complicated than a contemporary romance and also more detailed and realistic. I often get them on audio because I love Xe Sands.
