Lily Danville's life is crumbling around her. With no money and no home, her only choice is to go back to the one town she swore she'd never see again: Cedar Ridge, Colorado. Back to the memories of her sister's tragic death. Back to the place where, ten years ago, she shared an unforgettable kiss with Aidan Kincaid-the man her sister once loved.
A new job at the town's hottest resort is just the fresh start Lily has been looking for...until she discovers the resort is owned by none other than the Kincaid family. How can she possibly see Aidan every day without feeling as if she's betraying her sister?
But as secrets from the past come to light and Lily starts to realize the truth, she can only hope it's not too late to find love, family, and forgiveness. - via GoodReads
I can’t lie. The cover of Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis drew me in. I made it to the ripe old age of 34 and I’ve been reading consistently for the last 12 years or so and had never read a book by Jill Shalvis. I can’t tell you how happy I am now that I’ve corrected this egregious error.
Lily Danville was likable enough. Her awkwardness wasn’t as endearing to me as it may have been for others but I gave her some grace considering all that she had been through. I don’t know how I would have been able to deal with the losses life has dealt her. Aiden Kincaid is an adorable hero. I don’t know that most people would use that to describe him as he is a sexy alpha male who works on a search and rescue team. I just think adorable suits a man who has waited over a decade for the love of his life to come back to Colorado and him.
I really enjoyed the entire cast of secondary characters. They seem to have a lot of fun with each other and at each other’s expense. I am pretty excited to continue the series just so that I can spend more time with them. While the family dynamics are interesting and not my experience it doesn’t make them any less a family. Sometimes a family is the family you chose.
Second Chance Summer by Jill Shalvis definitely had a very slow start and it seemed to take longer than I like to figure out everyone’s angle but there was still one heck of a payoff! I’ve picked up the other two books in this series so I’m hoping to get back to Cedar Ridge in the near future!
