How I Get Prepared for Dewey’s 24 Hour Read-a-thon

24 Hour ReadathonIt’s almost here ladies and gents! Tomorrow at 7 AM CST I will be plunging in and getting my read on for hopefully a 24 hour period. In the interest of getting myself prepared, I took a half day off work today and I am doing everything I can to get ready for tomorrow.

You can find out more about Dewey’s read-a-thon here.

My To-Do List:

  • Clean kitchen, living room, dining room, and upstairs; wash bedding, sweep and vacuum floors; do my laundry, and clean bird cage.
  • I will feel so much better knowing that my house is clean and tidy and that I don’t have any of my regular chores lurking. I won’t be sneaking looks away from my book so that I can stare down that pile of stuff that I should have dealt with yesterday. Instead I can stare down my pile of books! Also since I always start off Dewey’s in bed (7 am start time for me) who wouldn’t appreciate fresh sheets and pillowcases?!

  • Empty and refresh my Scentsy pots.
  • Please tell me I’m not the only one who really enjoys a great smell in the warmer while I read. There is a pot in the kitchen and one upstairs.

  • Prepare food: OAMM dinners and beef jerky.
  • I need to make my beef jerky (I LOVE making my own jerky; it’s so much more affordable!) and get my crock pot ready for dinner for tomorrow night. I’m giving freezing my dinners in advance one last try! I’ll get those made up and freeze half and put the other half in the fridge for us to eat fresh through the upcoming week. I’ll be up early (for a Saturday) so I may as well go ahead and get dinner in the crockpot ahead of time!

  • Get the blog up to date.
  • Really the only thing that will be my priority here is getting my posts scheduled for the next few days. On Sunday, I’ll worry about getting ahead on posts again.

  • Prep my spaces.
  • I’ll be reading in my bed and on the couch. I want to make sure the areas around them (think night tables and side tables) are clear for me to be able to use. I can’t stress enough how much I do not want to worry about anything else going on tomorrow. I want to read from the time I am up and going on Saturday until I cry for mercy hopefully in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

The Food and Drinks!

I have such a variety to chose from this year! Snacking is such a huge thing for me while I read. I did try to be more healthy this year but let’s be real, I have some chocolate too!

  • Cottage cheese – I love this with Everything But the Bagel seasoning!
  • Beef Jerky
  • Various fruit
  • Pepper Jack string cheese
  • Cosmic Brownies
  • Fudge Rounds
  • Doritos w/ cheese dip <--- Don't judge
  • The only thing for beverages is Coke. I drink mostly diet now so I splurged and got regular Coke!

Of course not all of this food is going to be consumed tomorrow but I like to have choices. Running to the grocery store during read-a-thon is a good way to lose an hour or two!

How about you? Are you participating in Dewey’s? If so, what do you do to prepare?
