Discussion: Do you review everything you read?

Posted February 13th, 2019 by in Discussions / 6 comments

Today’s discussion is mostly aimed at book bloggers/reviewers. As I was getting myself back into a blogging schedule I realized that I didn’t remember a lot about the books that I had read since I had last blogged. In all fairness it had been a few months and there had been a lot of books. For me there was no way that I would be able to adequately review all of them. Most of the details were pretty hazy at that point. I feel like the whole point of reviewing is to give your thoughts on the book and not just regurgitating the plot line.

I made the decision to just let those reviews go. It really went against everything in me to do it. Now there are gaps in series without reviews and that’s probably the biggest sticking point for me. One of the things that I learned in 2018 is that you just have to let some things go or it may end up being your mind that ends up letting go. Now that I’m on more stable ground personally I intend to write all the reviews.

Do you review every book you read?

I do review every single book that I read. It’s just a thing that I do and I started doing it years ago. I’ve kept it up and I love that I do it now cause I always have a way to go back to read my thoughts on books I forgot about.

    Great post!

Thanks! The problem with my reviews is that I’m typically a spoiler-free reviewer so I’m very vague on story line and review more on how the book made me feel. When I go back to read my reviews for a series they don’t help at all! Lol.

It is so great to have a system where you can go back to see how you felt about a book!! I’m glad you found that works for you!

I do not review every book I read, though I do give them all ratings on Goodreads. The only books I formally review on the blog are ARCs, though I do share books in other ways through memes, quotes, discussions, etc. I find that I get more enjoyment when I don’t have that expectation of needing to write a review for everything.

I do try to rate everything on GoodReads but it doesn’t always get a review. Especially if too much time has passed. That sounds like a fantastic system though!! It definitely would alleviate some of the stuff that I impost on myself. Given the state of my ARC pile right now though there wouldn’t be much to review on the blog. Lol!

Ever since I started my blog, I made the goal to review every book I read. The only ones I haven’t are DNF books or novellas and I just write a few sentences on Goodreads.

It’s nice to have that goal! I’d love to be able to do it but I don’t think I have the discipline for it. I haven’t had a DNF yet but I know I wouldn’t review them either. Novellas are hard to review because there usually just isn’t much to be said. I do a round up if I have a few of those books to review. I’m thinking I’ll find a system that works for me! *fingers crossed*
