The Sunday Post {We’re Settled – Kinda}

Sunday Post

The Sunday Post is a weekly meme hosted by Caffeinated Book Reviewer. It’s a chance to share news: a post to recap the past week on your blog, showcase books and things we have received. Share news about what is coming up on our blog for the week ahead. Borrowed from Kimba @ Caffeinated Book Reviewer.

It’s been a few months since I attempted to blog regularly. The last time I had posted we had just sold our house and I thought things were going to settle down again. I couldn’t have been more wrong. Between the time we sold our house and my last post, our landlords were showing the house again. I think I may have actually posted about that. We started house hunting on October 20th. We put in an offer on a house on October 31st. It isn’t perfect but it had everything that we wanted and good bones. The next best house we were interested in was $40,000 higher and would have needed a new roof immediately. You can do a lot of interior decorating with $40K!

Between inspections and repairs we closed on our new home on December 14th, 2018; not even two months after selling our previous home. We slept on an air mattress in our new home for a week. Then my husband, rock start hat he is, busted his butt with some assistance from me (truly he did all the heavy lifting!), moved all of our stuff from our rental AND the majority of our storage unit in 24 hours. We wrapped up cleaning out the rental Friday night and we’re hoping they get someone in their quickly and release us from our lease early. Then we’re going to get the remainder of the small stuff from the storage unit and we’ll be moved in and the unpacking will begin in earnest! Our kitchen, bedroom, and my office are mainly operational. I can’t tell you how good it feels to have our own home again. It’s a feeling I definitely took for granted in IL.

Lost Books and Old Bones by Paige SheltonI’m really looking forward to catching up with this series! The first book was a pretty big miss for me but I’ve enjoyed each book since. The fourth one is slated to come out later this year. This week I’m driving back to IL for a meeting and to work a few days in the office. It’s only two days/one night but it does dig into my reading time. Should I finish Lost Books and Old Bones this week I’ll dive into….

The Madness Underneath by Maureen JohnsonThe Madness Underneath by Maureen Johnson. I’m really excited to jump back into this series. I re-read The Name of the Star and am determined to see this series through. Last time I read the book I just got distracted by other shiny books. Now I’m forming my book lists more around finishing series which is a great feeling!

It was more than I anticipated for sure! I’m so excited to get settled! My husband did an excellent job getting our kitchen cleaned up today while I worked so we’re down to three rooms that need to be cleared. Phew!

I love owning my own home! We bought our first and moved in October! It was all stressful on the lead p but it was great being in for Christmas.
I hope you settle in quickly and love your new home!

Congratulations on your new home! It is a really great feeling, isn’t it? I loved our first home and was pretty sad to leave it. But I love this home too. It’s been a somewhat confusing time in our lives but things are starting to smooth out!

Congrats on your new home! And good luck with all the finishing up stuff- hope it goes well. You guys have been busy!!

That Maureen Johnson book looks good- I read my first book of hers- Truly Devious- last year.

Thanks! We have been so busy but now that we have only one house to focus on things should go a little more smoothly. SHOULD go being the operative words. Lol.

That was a great book and what made me want to wrap up this series now. I’m really looking forward to The Vanishing Stairs this month!

  3. Tina @ As Told By Tina

Yay for a new home! I’m hoping you guys can get everything settled soon. It sounds so stressful so hopefully the stress ends and you can enjoy your new home without worrying about anything else.

I hope you have a wonderful week.

Yes! I’m loving my dishwasher (it’s the first time I’ve had one in 14 years)! Now that we’re down to one house, I think things will be better. I’m really hoping so!

Thanks! I hope you do too!!

  4. Wendy @ Falconer's Library

I so want to read Pride soon, and 28 1/2 Wishes is a great title for a book–I’m already curious about it from that alone.
Moving is awful. It just is. I’m glad for you that you’re mostly settled now.

It popped up in “Others who bought X also bought….” on Amazon the other day so I put it on hold at my library. I love Pride and Prejudice and the blurb got me. I’m hoping it’s going too be a great read. I saw a spin off series for 28 1/2 Wishes on Bookmark Lit and since the first series first book was free I picked it up.

It really is. I never understood how awful until this move. I’m really glad we’re almost done. 🙂

I got Pride with Owlcrate and want to read it soon. Congratulations on moving, I’m glad you managed the stress. I have moved many times and will soon be moving again, I’m dreading the day believe me.
    Have a great week!

    • Stephanie

Owlcrate is great for introducing people to books! I used to have a subscription and they did The Serpent King by Jeff Zetner. I NEVER would have picked up the book based on the title/cover (I know, bad reader!) but he is now an auto-buy for me. I hope you enjoy Pride!

Oh I am sorry that you’ll have to move again soon. It’s the worst. I’m hoping if we move again we’ll have learned a few things from this go-round. Best of luck!

  6. Anne - Books of My Heart

I’m glad it’s going well in your new home. I do find it exciting to figure out where everything will go and how to make it all work the best in a new place. But you also need time for you and to read and relax. So enjoy all those new books too!

It is. Today however I noticed that I cannot find my egg bite molds and I’m needing to meal prep. I’m going to give it one more last ditch effort in a few minutes. 🙂 I think we’re doing okay with balancing but we would both like to see more progress in unpacking. I’m hoping with this coming week, we’ll see more and feel more normal. We’re getting there. Thanks for stopping in!
