Listen to Me by Kristen Proby *Stephanie’s Review*

[book-info]

I thought I had remembered hearing good things about Listen to Me by Kristen Proby so picked it up on a whim on a Barnes & Noble shopping trip. Unfortunately for me this book was just average. There is absolutely nothing wrong with average but it does make it a bit hard to write a review.

While there was nothing wrong with Listen to Me, there wasn’t anything overly remarkable about it either. It seemed to me that the emotional problems each character had were shallow. Both Addie and Jake had some big issues but rather than giving the characters depth it made them seem silly.
For example, Addie’s complete and total overreaction to the cheek kiss on the red carpet. I literally rolled my eyes after this whole plot point rolled out.
A lot of these issues were overcome pretty easily.

The plot moved smoothly. There wasn’t anything about Listen to Me that stood out or gave me pause. For me, this was a pleasant read but not one I’d pick up again. It follows a typical romance story arc: couple meets, hits it off, hits a snag or two, resolves it, and earns their happily ever after. There’s nothing wrong with that arc but if its used there should be something else in the story that really grabs your attention. Neither the characters or the plot line did that for me.

In the future when it comes to the books that follow in this series, I’ll probably make good use of my library card. I won’t discount the remainder of Proby’s books because of one less than stellar read but I’m not going to be waiting in line for them either.

 1. I listened to this one and really enjoyed it quite a bit. Kristen Proby has great narrators for her books and any time I am in the book for a sweet enjoyable romance with no much conflict that is easy and helps me to relax I grab up her books. There isn’t anything incredible or shout out about them. However, I tend to just fall in love with them very easily although I know some readers don’t like her books as much as I do. I am sorry to hear that this one didn’t work for you like you expected.
