In this third book in the Lunar Chronicles, Cinder and Captain Thorne are fugitives on the run, now with Scarlet and Wolf in tow. Together, they're plotting to overthrow Queen Levana and her army.
Their best hope lies with Cress, a girl imprisoned on a satellite since childhood who's only ever had her netscreens as company. All that screen time has made Cress an excellent hacker. Unfortunately, she's just received orders from Levana to track down Cinder and her handsome accomplice.
When a daring rescue of Cress goes awry, the group is separated. Cress finally has her freedom, but it comes at a higher price. Meanwhile, Queen Levana will let nothing prevent her marriage to Emperor Kai. Cress, Scarlet, and Cinder may not have signed up to save the world, but they may be the only hope the world has.
I once tried to read Cress a few years ago and I just couldn’t get into it so I put it down. I’m so glad that I picked it back up and re-read the beginning and finally made it to the end of the story.
The first time I read this story I made it about half way and I just didn’t like where it was going. I didn’t really like Cress the first time around because she is so opposite of me and I also didn’t really get why everyone loved Thorne. I am so glad that with giving this another chance that I didn’t feel any of those things this time around.
I really liked Cress because she was smart enough to be able to make something of her mind even though she was stuffed up in a small space her whole life. I liked how she knew what she was doing when it came to hacking and looking after people, even if she is a bit shy and scared of simple Earth things. I also really liked Thorne. I always felt like he wasn’t worth my time because he was a thieving criminal who didn’t really have any good qualities. I do like that Cress had this romanticized him in her mind and that she was able to see who Thorne really was over time. I do believe there are some redeeming qualities in Thorne now though and I get how much he is willing to do to protect all of the people he cares for, especially Cress. I really liked these two together and how it really was a slow burning thing.
I also enjoyed seeing more of how the people of Luna are. I wanted to see where this whole story arc was going and I was not let down. I loved the addition of more space time in this book and seeing how the overall plan was coming together. I enjoyed the merge of Earth and the moon in this book and how we need to know all of these little pieces to put the puzzle together.
Overall, I really loved all of the characters in this one. I really enjoyed learning more about Luna in this one and I can’t wait to see where it all goes because it was certainly getting good in the end.
