I originally read Beautiful Creatures by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl several years ago and loved it. Then the movie killed all enthusiasm for me. As a movie it worked but as a book adaptation it was awful!
I really enjoyed Beautiful Creatures. It’s a chunker at 577 pages but it really is a quick read! Set in the South, narrated by a male lead, paranomral aspects, and visions from the Civil War? Oh not to mention a family curse! Where do I sign up? It would have been hard for me to not like this book. It’s almost perfect for me.
The one thing that trips me up with the story is the whole “I’ve found my soulmate who is more special than any other boy or girl in the whole of the universe and I can’t live without him/her…at the age of 16.” At times it is a bit much but it wasn’t enough to deter me from continuing with the series. It didn’t dim my enjoyment of Beautiful Creatures. Thankfully I already own book two, Beautiful Darkness, so I will be able to continue on with the series!
