One night. No one will know.
That was the deal. Every year, Livvy Kane and Nicholas Chandler would share one perfect night of illicit pleasure. The forbidden hours let them forget the tragedy that haunted their pasts-and the last names that made them enemies.
Until the night she didn’t show up.
Now Nicholas has an empire to run. He doesn’t have time for distractions and Livvy’s sudden reappearance in town is a major distraction. She’s the one woman he shouldn’t want…so why can’t he forget how right she feels in his bed?
Livvy didn’t come home for Nicholas, but fate seems determined to remind her of his presence–and their past. Although the passion between them might have once run hot and deep, not even love can overcome the scandal that divided their families.
Being together might be against all the rules…but being apart is impossible.
This is a second chance love story between two people who have a huge family history between them.I am just going to throw this out there, I’m not a fan of second chance romances. I kept going back to the same guy over and over again when I was younger and it was never for the best. I loved him and I will always love him in some aspects but him and I were not good for each other as a couple. There was just always something missing so I’m not a big fan of a woman going back to a man who couldn’t get it right the first time around.
This story is full of drama due to the fact that our male lead’s family pushed our female lead’s family out of the grocery business that they shared together. There is a bunch of hate between the family members that caused Nicholas and Livvy to break up when they were teenagers. Since then the two are drawn together once a year to sleep with each other. To taste all that they gave up 10 years ago. I felt like a lot of this book was not really about anything. Livvy comes home for the first time in 10 years and she doesn’t really know what to do about Nicholas. She loves him and has since she was a kid but she doesn’t see how things will work this time around. Nicholas is stubborn and wants any part of Livvy he can have. Nicholas tries to keep the sex up with Livvy throughout the beginning of the novel. This should sound exciting but the sex seems a little bland and doesn’t really add much to the book.
I feel the real novel doesn’t get started until about halfway through when Nicholas starts to wake up to what he really wants. He decides that it might just be time to feel something for the first time in a while. It might be time for his heart to go to the girl it has always belonged to. Livvy also starts to panic about what everything means and just what the future holds for her. I feel the families really come together to show these two that the past is the past and that everyone should move forward in the way they see fit. I have to say that although there is drama it does start to melt your heart and you do feel that these two should be together.
Overall, the beginning of this one was a bit rough but about halfway through the heartfelt moments do pick up and have you wanting the couple to be together. I also really loved Livvy’s twin brother and the next book is about him so I can’t wait to see what his story holds. He is more my type of man instead of Nicholas.
