Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan *Stephanie’s Review*

[book-info]

I picked up Winterblaze by Kristen Callihan because I have been trying to focus more on those unfinished series. I have a ton! I’ve really enjoyed the Darkest London series so I picked up Winterblaze to make more progress. Plus I had really been looking forward to Win and Poppy’s story.

Unfortunately I picked up Winterblaze in the middle of my prolific life slump. This slump included reading as well. As I had been looking forward to this specific book, I was hoping it would break up my reading slump a bit. Despite my hopes my reading progress still spanned three months. I enjoyed this one for sure but it didn’t hook me the way that I had hoped it would and that was more my fault than the books. Still I enjoyed it and felt Winterblaze was a good addition to the series. I particularly liked the flashbacks to the beginning of Win and Poppy’s relationship.

I didn’t love Win as much as I wanted to. i knew he had quite a bit to recover from but he ended up being more of a jerk than I had wanted. He got better as the book went on but it set the tone. Poppy made me proud. She owned her past and her present responsibilities. She made no excuses but still wanted her marriage to succeed. I loved all of the supporting characters and was just as worried about them as I was Win and Pop. Bonus: we get to see Archer and Miranda and Ian and Daisy again.

I feel like my rating reflects more on my reading state at the time than it does a fair reflection on the book. For me, it was a good read but not the best in the series. I’m still looking forward to the rest of the series!

  1. Oh man. It’s hard when you’re going through a spell like that and it’s not really the books fault. I’ve been wanting to try her out for a while now. One day I’ll hopefully make it to them 🙂 Hope the next book hits the spot!

    1. It totally is. I have loved her previous books and I wanted so badly to love this one just as much. I can tell you that Firelight (the first book) was one of my favorite books the year that I read it. Loved it! So I hope when you do have a chance to get to it you enjoy it!
