I read Between Sisters by Cathy Kelly because I love books set in countries outside of the US and the plot line caught my attention. I was hoping for a good read and I got a great read. Between Sisters focuses heavily on the relationships between family members and communication. It also showed how sometimes not talking about our needs or our lives can effect those around us.

I loved Cassie and Coco. Both sisters brought so much to this story. Cassie is strong and protective while still loving those around her. She is fierce if she feels she or her loved ones have been wronged. Coco is softer and offers a different type of love. She was much younger when her mother left and so she isn’t as reserved as Cassie. She takes longer to be pushed to her limits but watch out when she is!

Between Sisters has a ton of characters and evolving story arcs throughout the novel. I was never confused on which character was who or how they related. I think everyone should have a woman like Pearl in their lives. She wasn’t perfect but the world would be a much better place if we all had mentors like Pearl. I absolutely adored the small town cozy feel that Kelly evokes in her novel. I so badly wish that I could move to Delaney Gardens and be as happy there as the residents. It made me feel like I didn’t need to “keep up with the Jones’s” to be happy and that isn’t a sentiment that I pick up on in many of the books that I read.

That doesn’t mean that these amazing people didn’t have their own troubles. There were enough problems that I could only sit and wonder how everything would work itself out. Kelly kept me interested in what would happen next with everyone. And there were a lot of people outside of Cassie and Coco to worry about. I had to know that they would be happy. I cared about what happened to them. I wasn’t disappointed. There wasn’t a single person who’s plot line wasn’t resolved by the end of Between Sisters.

I would recommend this book if you’re looking for a character driven story with a lot of heart and emotion. I wasn’t sure of what I would get but I really enjoyed Between Sisters by Cathy Kelly!
