In my quest to find a good and spooky read, I picked up First Grave on the Right by Darynda Jones. I was hoping the ghost stories would be enough to curb the spooky read bug. It didn’t fit what I was looking for but it was still an enjoyable read!
I liked the way that Charley operates. She can see ghosts but there isn’t always something she has to do in order for them to be able to cross. I loved Charley’s “give no fucks” attitude and that under that hard exterior was a true softie. I didn’t have the mystery solved before the end. This is crucial for me to really enjoy the book.
Charley is sarcastic and I can tell we’re going to get along just fine! She was easily my favorite character. Cookie and Reyes were good but I think that the lawyers beat them out. For whatever reason fictionalized ghost are some of my favorite characters!
This was a strong start to a series I am sure I’m going to enjoy! I’ll need to read the second book soon!
