My heart is a little sad as I write this review. It’s the last in the Blue Heron series. I have so loved spending my time there so it was bittersweet as I started Anything for You by Kristan Higgins. I wasn’t ready to say goodbye but it was a good one.
Connor O’Rourke has been in the periphery of the previous books and I was stoked to hear he was getting his own book. I’ve always kind of liked him more than Colleen. He can cook and I don’t mean just grilled cheese. The man is a chef. He also has a heart of gold and tries to do right by the people around him.
Jessica. Freaking. Dunn. I really wondered how this was possibly going to work. I didn’t really care for Jess in the previous books. I didn’t dislike her but I wasn’t a fan either. Much like Connor I had to work past her exterior to see someone worth the effort.
Higgins told this story beautifully. Connor and Jessica have a history and their story just wouldn’t have been the same with a gloss over wrap up. Instead we’re treated to detailed scenes at crucial parts of their interactions.
The secondary characters are the usual crew by now. Davey, Jessica’s younger brother, has alcohol fetal syndrome and will forever need to be supervised and assisted. He wasn’t glossed over either. Davey plays a large part in this book. Higgins touches on some difficult subjects including alcoholism and forgiveness.
I’m not surprised that I loved this book; that I laughed and teared up. I’ve come to expect that with Higgins. I do know that i cannot wait to see what she has up her sleeve next!
