Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas *Stephanie’s Review*

I decided that I wanted more historical romance in my life again. I also really, really loved the Wallflower series by Lisa Kleypas. It’s been several years so I thought it was time to re-read the series.

I remember being pretty wishy washy about Annabelle and Simon. Annabelle has so much on her shoulders since her father’s death. The family bills are being paid but just barely and the price is higher than just the coin. Annabelle doesn’t have the luxury of marrying for love. I enjoyed Annabelle. She’s smart and kind but a little snobby. She doesn’t want to marry outside of the peerage.

Simon Hunt is an interesting hero. He isn’t a peer but is richer than most of the peerage. Simon is also pretty disdainful of the very people he’s worked so hard to be amongst. I can’t say that I blame him. The peerage aren’t overly friendly to those outside themselves. Simon is an interesting mix of overly guarded and alpha with gentleness and love. He certainly has a healthy dose of arrogance.

Secrets of a Summer Night is the first book in the Wallflower series. Each of the Wallflowers is introduced in this book. It was interesting to see who will be coming up in the next books. I’ve read the books before so obviously I know the characters but they’ve faded around the edges. I’m looking forward to getting reacquainted with them.

  1. oh I just love this book and well the whole series is amazing. I think my favorite scene is the one in the factory at the end–you really see them both tested in a real way. Love that. And well the honeymoon scenes were pretty funny too.

    1. It took me awhile to warm up to Simon and Annabelle the first time but this time (because I already knew everything) it was so much more fun! I knew I liked them so they didn’t have anything to prove. 🙂

  2. Yes! Annabelle was a little snobby, but I wanted more of Simon — an interesting mix is a good way of describing him, I think. 😉

    1. Annabelle definitely rankled more the first time. I was able to enjoy her character more this time around. I have to admit that more than once this time I wanted to thump Simon for his alpha tendencies. 😉
