Once upon a time there was a book called 1st to Die and it was amazing. I loved it and vowed that I’d never miss a book published in the Women’s Murder Club series. Enter Unlucky 13 by James Patterson and Maxine Paetro. I’m over it. I held off purchasing this book and put a hold on a copy at my local library. This is the first book since starting the series that I didn’t buy and I’m so glad I saved my $8.99.

Unlucky 13 is kind of like an ooey gooey brownie. It was good going down and didn’t take that long to ingest but afterwards (once the sugar high is over) it feels like maybe not one of your best life choices. Within two days of finishing the book I started to question my own rating for a lot of reasons.

The story that I though was the main plot line took a backseat to the two new plot lines. The Mackie Morales story line was what I really wanted to read and it seemed to barely get any page space and took a completely lame ending too.
The Belly Bomber thing wasn’t even resolved entirely. It was just left to assume that eventually they find solid evidence and justice was served.
Unlucky 13 left me feeling like there was part of the book I missed somewhere. At this point I need a conclusion to this series. I need to know that there is a light at the end of the tunnel.

With all of my complaints I was still able to read Unlucky 13 swiftly. I’ll read the next book in the series but thankfully I have a great library so my investment in the series will only be my time and not my money.

  1. I have only read through 5 on this series so far. I had trouble with the new gal that came in.

    1. I agree. The third book was a doozy! Yuk I does grow on you though. I just don’t think that it’s worth the financial investment any more. 😦
