Review: To Charm a Naughty Countess by Theresa Romain

After finishing It Takes Two to Tangle, I was really excited to pick up To Charm a Naughty Countess by Theresa Romain.

Romain’s heroes in the Matchmaker Trilogy all seem to be broken in the eyes of Society. Michael cannot function in a crowd. Michael is trying to find any way he can to save his dukedom from financial ruin. He uses methods that are new and untested. Combine ingenuity with social anxiety and you have a mad eccentric. Caroline seemed to be so mysterious in It Takes Two to Tangle and I couldn’t wait to read her story.

Perhaps I am more like Caroline’s puppies than I care to admit. I was sort of disappointed with her story. I expected her story to be more exciting than it was. Romain makes up for it with great characters, fun settings, and a small twist in the story that I hadn’t seen coming.

While I didn’t love To Charm a Naughty Countess quite as much as It Takes Two to Tangle, I’m still looking forward to the third book in the series!

  1. I struggle with Romain for some reason and I don’t know whether it’s the characters or the romance in some of her novels. I either end up adoring it or thinking meh.

    1. So far I’d say that has been my experience as well. Loved the first book I read but this one didn’t have the same effect. I am really excited for the story in the third book. We were introduced to the hero of that one in this book and he seems to have a wry sense of humor.
