Summary from Goodreads:

For Sage Mccarthy, life has not been all sunshine and roses, and over the years she’s developed some deep seeded trust issues. So it’s no wonder that when Connor Reed comes along, she thinks he is too good to be true. Despite the wall she’s built, Connor quickly breaks his way inside and shows her how to love again. When the past shows up, and threatens to hurt the people she loves she has decisions to make. Will she embrace her new found trust, and the man she loves? Or will she put her walls back up to protect them both?

Connor is a broken man, slowly working his way back from a bad relationship. He meets Sage and knows his life will never be the same. When the unthinkable happens, he must act quickly; doing everything he can to protect the woman he loves.

My Thoughts:

Holy hell… this one grabbed me by the nape of the neck immediately and lead me down the path of love, treachery, and vindication. I was so captivated by this one that I almost forgot I had my own family to take care of… don’t you fret, they reminded me!

Almost right away, my heart was breaking for Sage. Her early life wasn’t so beautiful and left a lot to be desired! I’ve seen some nasty beginnings, but man, this one takes the cake! Sage takes it all in stride and seems to live a guarded life after her crappy past… Enter Connor! He’s nothing like Sage has ever expected. He’s kind yet demanding, he’s firm yet yielding (when he needs to be), and he’s hot as hell! One more thing… HE CAN COOK! He stunned the hell out of me when his commando alter ego came out and took over in order to protect what was rightfully his!! The chemistry between Sage and Connor was so influential, I was drawn to both of them instantly! It was surprising to see the frankness and honesty that poured from both of them. You usually don’t see that in a couple dealing with trust issues! Great supporting cast of characters as usual. Nice to see the update on Victoria and Leland. I absolutely love the friendship between Vie and Sage! Makes me miss my friends back home! Hoping to see more of Carter, Piper, and Sage’s Daddio in future books!

I must say, this is more than just a romance. It’s also a very suspenseful story and packs quite a punch! Once I reached (I believe) around 50%, I was gripping my Kindle with such force, I thought I might break the damn thing! Nice twist of events Ms. Rae! All in all, I loved this tale and will tell anyone who listens to start reading this series right away! It’s 196 (Kindle version) pages long and couldn’t be more perfect. The storyline holds together and flows very nicely.

Ooooh! Romance and Suspense? I’m down! (I can’t believe this is the first I’ve really heard about this series!! It’s definitely going on my to-read-list!) I especially love that it sounds like there are some great secondary characters – friendships can really make these books great!

Honestly, I wasn’t especially intrigued by the synopsis, since it sounds kind of like so many other books, but your review changed my mind! 🙂 Ha! I’m glad your family was nice enough to pull you from your reading to pay attention to them. 😀 I will definitely have to look this up–great review!
