[book-info]
Love’s Encore by Sandra Brown was originally published in the early 1980s. The only thing that really gives that away is the lack of cell phones and the clothing descriptions which were totally all the rage in the 80s.
I truly enjoyed the setting of Love’s Encore. Brown uses the power of words to set her stage; a beautiful albeit rundown plantation mansion and acreage. It was so easy to imagine Bridal Wreath, Rayburn, Camille, Zach, Simon, and Dearly in that rambling Southern home. I have to say that Rayburn, Simon, and Dearly were probably my favorite things in this book.
I just could not enjoy Zach and Camille. The two spent almost the entirety of the book bickering. Fighting would have been preferable because then their issues would have been resolved. Instead we had one long almost willful misunderstanding. Despite owning and operating a business and being a professional with the elder Prescott, Camille is one whiny heroine. Even though her relationship with Zach is consensual, she insists that he stole her innocence. Not to mention that she withheld the fact that she was a virgin from him.
Love’s Encore by Sandra Brown, for me, wasn’t a fantastic read but it helped me pass a Saturday afternoon enjoyably. That is all I ever ask of a book.
