Persuader by Lee Child is the seventh book in the Jack Reacher series and I have to say that I’m still really enjoying it. Typically at this point in the game I’m getting bored with a series. Child keeps my attention by having a smart main character. Jack Reacher isn’t only intelligent when it comes to survival and hand to hand combat but he’s also interested in the same things I am. He enjoys history and how the government came into being. Naturally he’s also interested in military history.
Child is pretty much a master at suspense. I find when I’m reading one of his novels I have a hard time putting them down. Persuader was no exception. This particular book saw Reacher in an almost impossible situation with no escape. The overall plot isn’t much different than Child’s previous novels: Reacher is found by someone who needs help, Reacher’s a good guy so he helps, Reacher triumphs. I’m a reader who truly enjoys the details! The details make all the difference to me. The story, while predictable, was so different in all the details.
Really the only issue I take with the books is one that seems quite hypocritical of me. It seems that Lee Child cannot go one book with hooking Reacher up with a woman. They roll into bed for a night or two but it never lasts. I think I resent the fact that the sex in the book seems to be just sex. There’s never really going to be a relationship. Maybe it is rather cruel of me to resent Reacher having a good time when he can get it. Overall I have to say that I can’t wait to continue with the series!
