Waiting on You by Kristan Higgins is the third book in the Blue Heron series. I wasn’t expecting it to be Colleen O’Rourke’s story. Colleen has been a character on the periphery in the past two books. She’s portrayed as a fun loving bar tender who has it all together. If people knew what a mess she was on the inside she is, they may give her a wider berth. Colleen never got over her first love. She’s tried, she really has. She’s dated a few guys around town and lets everyone think she’s the town slut. No one else has ever held a candle to Lucas though.
Once again we get to spend a pretty lengthy amount of time in Manningsport, NY. I have truly enjoyed the series. Waiting on You is the first book that has received a four star rating. To be honest, I enjoyed the book right up until 93% and then I was just angry. I didn’t care if Colleen and Lucas got their happily ever after. Lucas throws a sort of tantrum and says/does some pretty mean things. I almost lost my patience with him. Of course they got things sorted out but I was left not really loving Lucas like I’ve loved all of Higgins’s past heroes. He kind of pissed me off.
The characters were of course great. We got to spend more time with previous characters and even managed to meet a few more citizens. I do love this series and I do love Higgins’s witty writing. I mean with lines like these, what’s not to love?
He waited until Frank left; the guy would stop to talk to Chloe, no doubt, who collected souls like a tiny Satan.
(Just in case you’re wondering, Chloe is Lucas’s five year old niece. She’s playing receptionist in this scene.) It’s lines like these peppered throughout the book that just make me giggle.
While Waiting on You was not my favorite book in the series, it was still a pretty great contemporary romance. I would definitely recommend the entire Blue Heron series to contemporary romance fans who enjoy laughing and crying. In fact, I’m such a fan that I’ve bought the entire series in paperback to pass around the office. If you haven’t tried Kristan Higgins or the Blue Heron novels, stop putting it off and give it a try! You won’t regret it!
