Pecan Pies and Homicides by Ellery Adams is another great addition to an already fantastic series. Ellery Adams can make me smile and giggle and worry and wonder. For the most part the Charmed Pie Shoppe mysteries have been light-hearted and fun. I have found myself more than once giggling at the LeFaye women’s antics. Pecan Pies and Homicides though starts out on a sad note and I felt that through a lot of the book. The characters are all familiar and I loved reading them again. In this book we were introduced to a whole new slew of people. A grove has been destroyed and the townspeople need to find a town with a new grove. And Ella Mae LeFaye is going to help them all find a place in Havenwood.
In this series so far we’ve learned everything right beside Ella Mae. In the first book we may have suspected what was going on but we were pretty much left in the dark right until the end. In the second book, we started learning what exactly was going on in Havenwood and how all of the citizens were connected. Finally, in the third book we start digging into the real history and back story and getting some answers. It’s been a hell of a ride and I really am excited to see what Adams has in store for Havenwood, Georgia.
Typically with a mystery or thriller a lot of my enjoyment depends on the author being able to shield the end game from me. I tend to enjoy a book less if I can pinpoint the baddie from even half way through the book. I really enjoy those endings where I’m left in stunned disbelief. I have to be honest and admit that I really didn’t know who the baddie was in this book. There was SO much going on that Adams succeeded in stumping me. I think it might be because I was more enmeshed in the creature in the lake and all of the things Ella Mae had to go through than I was concerned about who had committed the murder. Either way it doesn’t matter because I really enjoyed this book. I had a hard time putting it down. I can’t wait for the next one!
