Summary from Goodreads:
A smashing, award-winning debut novel that introduces Charley Davidson: part-time private investigator and full-time Grim Reaper
Charley sees dead people. That’s right, she sees dead people. And it’s her job to convince them to “go into the light.” But when these very dead people have died under less than ideal circumstances (i.e. murder), sometimes they want Charley to bring the bad guys to justice. Complicating matters are the intensely hot dreams she’s been having about an Entity who has been following her all her life…and it turns out he might not be dead after all. In fact, he might be something else entirely.
I have heard so many great things about this series that I knew I couldn’t put off anymore. I also have heard many things about the wonderful Reyes and so I needed to see if I could make a new book boyfriend along the way!
I have to say this series starts off strong with Charley’s personality being a huge up front in your face part of the book. I like that she was sure of herself and her role as the Grim Reaper. I like that she already knew she was instead of having to find out about the supernatural world like most heroines have to do in supernatural books. I thought she was fun and sarcastic but at times the humor could be a little much. One person does not need to try so hard to be funny at every moment of the day. I have to say that while I didn’t get a chance to see Reyes much in this book that I’m really interested in him. I have to say part of the story I was so hooked just because I was dying to find out just who Reyes was and what his role in Charley’s life would be.
I do have to say I liked all of the ghosts and the murder plot lines as well. I always like there there is a good mystery for the characters to solve and I think that this book did provide a lot in way of plot. Sometimes books get heavy on the relationships in the book and the plot lines suffer but I’m happy to say that was not the case with this book. I was on the edge of my seat each and every time Charley went out searching for more information about Reyes. I have to say yet again he was a big draw for me and I was dying to know who he was and what was the deal with him. Plus I kept waiting for him to properly take Charley and I finally got my wish near the end of the book. I can only hope for more of Reyes and his sexiness in the next book!
Overall, I’m sad I waited so long to dive into this series but now I can’t wait to play catch up as long as Reyes is involved! Can’t wait to read the second book and learn more about the characters and the plot.
