Summary from Goodreads:

Most people play by the rules. Gavin and Liz aren’t most people….

Win at any cost. That’s always been the mantra of sports agent Liz Darnell. When she carries things too far and risks losing her number-one client, baseball pro Gavin Riley, Liz realizes that she’ll have to work extra innings to win him back. It might not be too much of a stretch. She’s had a thing for this player’s moves since she first laid eyes on him, and by the looks of it, he wants her just as bad.

Gavin’s more than ready—especially when Liz is offering herself as part of the bargain. And as much of her as Gavin wants. For added thrills, he decides to throw a little curve ball Liz’s way to see just how far she’s truly willing to go to keep him as a client. But when love unexpectedly enters the playing field, neither Liz nor Gavin are ready for the biggest game-changer of them all.

My Thoughts:

I read the first book in this series a long time ago and I liked it but didn’t love it. I picked up this book about a year ago and only read 50ish pages of it because at the time I had so many review books I just didn’t have time for this. I’m happy to say that I finally found the time to pick it up and read all the way through it.

One thing I like about this series is the characters. Especially after reading the first book and meeting many of the key players in this series it is easy to return to them and still enjoy learning about the Riley family. I was excited to see what Gavin was going to do with Liz since I know Liz messed up in the first book. I wanted to give Liz another chance though because I thought she could be a woman that I could really connect with once she got to tell her side of the story. Well neither of these two disappointed. I really like that Gavin “stepped up to the plate” and was able to have the balls to ask Liz to stay with him during his preseason games. I liked that their relationship started out a little sexual before it got serious, after all that was what Gavin was always use to.

I have to say I really enjoyed watching these two slowly fall for each other and all of the mishaps that went on in their developing romance. I felt it was really true to life that things and disagreements would get in the way of their happily ever after. I mean who wants to read a romance where nothing stands in the couple’s way of falling in love with one another. I like that Liz was a bit stubborn and didn’t want to admit that she was in love with Gavin and had been for many years leading up to their romantic adventures. I liked that she was concerned about being a woman who had a career and didn’t want to give up all of her hard work and dreams just for a man. I enjoyed watching her backbone bend a little though because she really did want to fall in love with the right man when the time was right. Gavin was that right man for her and although he fucked up a few times and made a mess of their love I liked those bumps in the road to love.

Overall, I did like this story. It didn’t wow me but it certainly had me cheering for the couple and I can’t wait to continue this series to watch Ty and Jenna fall in love in the next book. Basically if you are looking for a good contemporary romance with some sports stuff thrown in then this is the series for you.
