Summary from Goodreads:
Life outside of her house was a new experience for Della Sloane. The dark secrets of her past weren’t something she ever intended to share with anyone. They would never understand. No one would ever get close enough to find out. There was always a chance she’d go crazy sooner than they expected…
Woods Kerrington had never been one to be attracted to fragile females. They seemed like too much work. He wasn’t in it for the work just the pleasure. A night full of naughty fun had been exactly what was on his mind when he’d laid eyes on the hot little number that didn’t know how to pump gas and needed some help.
What he didn’t know was she was as fragile as they came.
The carefree girl who spoke her mind and didn’t care what the world thought of her was more breakable than he could ever imagine…
How I missed this one, I’ll never know, but thanks to my bestie Lori, I got right on it and thank goodness for that. Wowza, what a book! This book is not necessarily dark or distorted, but, well… it is in a way. It’s complex, but of so luscious! There are some subject lines that may or may not be unpleasant to some people, but for me Della’s background and Wood’s outlook only drew me in that much more. It was an exciting ride seeing how this played out.
Wood is one of those guys you love to hate. I started out in this series not being certain of him and slowing growing to adore him. Of course he needed a few smacks upside his head, but all in all I really enjoyed the transformation he made throughout this story. Now, sweet Della, she’s such an astonishing, thoughtful, beautiful, and inspirational heroine. To come from the hell she lived and approach life with such abandon was uplifting and encouraging! It was enjoyable to see how her backbone grew stronger and tougher from the beginning to the conclusion. Now as for those parents of Woods, well they can go suck and egg! I just can’t imagine having my life all mapped out for me with life changing events being chosen without my consent! Holy hell, I’d bust free for sure! Angelina, hmmm… I guess every story has to have a villain… well, she’s it! Spoiled, rotten to the core, and always manipulative. The best thing that could happen to her is if she French kissed a Mack truck!!! Great supporting characters in Trip, Bethy, Jace, Jimmy, and of course our beautiful Blaire.
This story was practically effortless to read. It’s 306 (kindle version) pages long and I was reading it while I was at Book Bash 2013 in Orlando, FL. so, I have to admit to taking a break so I could go downstairs and shamooze with some authors… Abbi Glines included!! LOL!! Seriously, I read it in one whole day total if you don’t count my breaks! I’ve always enjoyed Abbi’s books and find them to be inspiring, stimulating, and all around fan-effing-tastik!!!! I loved how the point of view kept altering so that I could understand how the other half felt about certain situations. I see a lot of authors are doing that lately and for me it’s the best way to keep up on everybody’s emotions and opinions.
The highs and lows were sufficient enough to make me want to take a Dramamine. A total emotional roller coaster ride. Rest assured, it does finally get to a point where you can take a breath or two… but the climax… HOLY FREAKING HELL… Talk about your cliffhangers… I’m already salivating at thinking about the next book… Hurry Abbi, hurry and get that sucka out to us!
