The Book Still on My Mind this week is…
Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt
Doomed to—or blessed with—eternal life after drinking from a magic spring, the Tuck family wanders about trying to live as inconspicuously and comfortably as they can. When ten-year-old Winnie Foster stumbles on their secret, the Tucks take her home and explain why living forever at one age is less a blessing that it might seem. Complications arise when Winnie is followed by a stranger who wants to market the spring water for a fortune.
Why It Is Still On My Mind
I had to read this book back when I was in 5th or 6th grade. The other day when I was on Instagram looking at everyone’s pictured for Book Soulmates Photo A Day Challenge for favorite Childhood books and Katelyn from Kate’s Tales Of Books and Bands posted a picture of this one and I was just like “I REMEMBER THAT BOOK!” While I first started reading it I really loved it but then I got to the end and absolutely hated it. I remember trying to write my own endings though I can’t remember what I came up with now. Since being reminded of this book I haven’t been able to stop thinking about it and how much I disliked the end. It was so long ago and I’m wondering if I would feel the same about it a second time around especially now that I am older. I know I say this a lot but I really wish I had the time to reread it an find out. Maybe I will again some time but who knows.
