Dewey's 24 Hour Readathon

So this is the first time that I will be participating in the Dewey’s 24 Hour Readathon. I’ve never participated before because frankly, I’m not good at staying up for long periods of time. I know for a fact that there will be sleeping during this very short readathon. I also probably won’t be able to join in on the fun until 8 or 9 my time due to my love of sleep. I will probably check in every 4 hours on this readathon. I’ve put some thought into what I want to read and to what I plan to eat. I have to run some errands in the morning so that’s going to cut into my time a bit. Unfortunately I can’t take a whole day and just devote it to reading entirely. Believe me, I SO wish I could. πŸ™‚ Wish me luck! Want to know more about the readathon? Just click the picture above!

My Game Plan:

The Food:

Breakfast:
Cottage Cheese and Pineapples

Lunch:
Grilled Pizza Sandwich with Avacado

Dinner:
Loaded Baked Potato Soup (Crockpot)

Snacks:
Soda (of course), fruit snacks, Avacado Dip and chips, circus peanuts, gummy worms, wax bottles, and peach rings. (I have a bit of a junk food addition! Lol.)

The Books:

Dewey TBR Pile
Goals:
Finish Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets about 1/3 of the book left to read (ebook)
Finish One Dance with a Duke only about 40 pages in
The Twits
Peach Pies and Alibies (ebook)
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban

I really doubt that I will get through all of this list. I’ve planned enough to keep me busy throughout the day.

The Updates

4 Hours In (11 am)

Total Pages Read: 61
How I’m Feeling: Actually surprised that I’ve read this many pages already! Just settling in now to really start reading. πŸ™‚

12 Hours In (7 pm)

Total Pages Read: 198
How I’m Feeling: If I don’t accomplish anything else during Dewey’s I can’t say how pleased I am to be reading Tessa Dare’s book! I am in love. πŸ™‚

16 Hours In (11 pm)

Total Pages Read:?
How I’m Feeling: So I fell asleep sometime around 11:30 and stayed solidly asleep the rest of the read-a-thon. I knew I would fall this epicly going into it so I’m not too upset with myself!

20 Hours In (3 am)

Total Pages Read: 0
How I’m Feeling: Asleep

24 Hours Done (7 am)

Total Pages Read: 0
How I’m Feeling: Yeah, still asleep!

Introduction Questions:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
Illinois, USA

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
Easily One Dance with a Duke by Tessa Dare. It’s been awhile since I have had time to read an adult historical romance.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Any of the junk food in my pile will be good. To be honest, I’m pretty stocked about the Loaded Baked Potato Soup for dinner.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I’m 28 years old and I love to read! I’ve been blogging for three years and I am looking forward to many more. I’ll be married for six years tomorrow and at this time, we’ve decided against having children. There’s still plenty of time for that to change. πŸ™‚ This is my first Dewey’s read-a-thon and I’m excited to be participating!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
I’m really just looking forward to having a day of mostly reading all to myself! πŸ™‚ Oh, and to knock down a few books in the TBR pile while I’m at it.

Things I Learned During my 1st Readathon:
*Rather than trying to read for three hours and play for one hour, I should devote at least 15 to 20 mins to socializing. I didn’t do nearly enough of that!

*Be prepared, be prepared, be prepared. Food, books, drinks, have all that stuff down before I start.

*Really, it’s worth trying to invest the whole read-a-thon to reading. Make sure that my schedule is clear and that I stay in a room where the TV is off. It never fails that I eventally get distracted by it.

*I stayed off Twitter because I was afraid that I would get sucked in to too much chatting. I should have attempted to communicate a bit because I feel like I really missed a big part of this read-a-thon because of that avoidance.

Otherr than that I did have a fab time while I was participating and the hourly posts were a lot of fun. πŸ™‚ I will probably be participating in October as long as it doesn’t land on one of the copious birthdays in that month! (Mine included but that would be the ultimate birthday!)
