Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by JK Rowling is one of those books that’s hard to review without fangirling all over the place but I’m going to try. In the first book of the epic Harry Potter series, we are introduced to Harry Potter. We learn the truth of his tragic background when Harry does. We learn that Harry is a wizard when he does. I think that JK Rowling was working on making us love Harry as much as she did from the beginning. Harry is endeared to us from the very beginning at least for anyone who loves a good underdog and really who doesn’t?

The world that Rowling creates is one that fans will want to delve back into again and again. There is so much potential in the world of Hogwarts and as the reader you feel that the surface is only being scratched. One of the biggest draws of the Harry Potter world for readers (in my opinion) is that Rowling has created a world quite literally just beyond our fingertips.

There are so many characters in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone that it would seem impossible to keep them all street. Rowling does a great job of gradually introducing us to people in Harry’s world. While this is the first book in the series, Rowling does not throw a whole new world, all of it’s history, and all of the inhabitants at you at once. Everything is introduced gradually and comfortably.

I know that Harry Potter is a much hyped enterprise between all of the books, movies and merchandise. If you haven’t read the books yet check out the first book in the series from the library. You won’t be out any money and I can almost guarantee that you will be glad you gave it a try. If you have read the book what are your thoughts on this book?
