Review: The Seduction of Phaeton Black by Jillian Stone

The Seduction of Phaeton Black by Jillian Stone

The Seduction of Phaeton Black by Jillian Stone is a fun, mysterious, sexy read that will have me coming back for more. It had so many elements that I enjoyed that it was impossible for me to not like this book. Stone took all of the following and mixed them all together to create a fantastic story; London just after Jack the Ripper, psychic abilities, goddesses, demons, fun characters and sexy times that will bump the room’s temperature up a few degrees!

Phaeton Black is a man with a healthy sexual appetite. Good thing he lives below a brothel! He does some part time work for Scotland Yard and has some abilities that shred the fabric between our world and the Other world. Phaeton can be a bit of a jerk but it helps him keep his distance from people. Distance between Phaeton and the general populace is a good thing in his opinion. America Jones has had a bit of turn in the luck department. Thanks to a bunch of intelligent pirates she’s lost her father and his fleet of cargo ships. If America can find a way to prove the piracy then she can start her life anew. When America is on the run from the pirates she gets more than she bargained for when she picks Phaeton to help disguise herself briefly from the pirates!

The way that Phaeton and America meet and interact the first time is the only thing that kept this book from being a five star read for me. It didn’t sit well but clearly that dislike wasn’t enough to outweigh the better parts of the book. The plot line was great and I really enjoyed the Egyptian background of the book. One of my favorite secondary characters doesn’t have a single line in the entire book but I loved Edvar the Sneaky all the more. Edvar was such an endearing little guy that you can’t help but love him. There is also Dr. Jason Exeter. I know he’ll be making an appearance in the next few books and I can’t wait to learn more about the fascinating doctor who clings to shadows.

Overall, if you enjoy paranormal romance with a dash of historical references, you should definitely take the time to give this series a try. I adored it and can’t wait to read the second book.

    1. Felicia it is such a fun read! The only off putting thing in this book besides their first encounter is a lot of blood being mentioned. Other than that it was completely enjoyable!

  3. I really liked this one but the second book in this series was a little bit of a let down for me so I hope the third book brings back together the things that I originally enjoyed. I hope you end up liking the second book!

    1. It looks like in the third book Dr. Exeter will have a bigger role. At least he better since his name is in the title!
