Still on my Mind was created and is hosted by Haley at YA-Aholic.The purpose of this meme is to share a book you read months or even years ago that is still on my (your) mind every Thursday.

The Book Still on My Mind this week is…

Private by Kate Brian

Goodreads Summary:

Tradition, Honor, Excellence… and secrets so dark they’re almost invisible

Fifteen-year-old Reed Brennan wins a scholarship to Easton Academy—the golden ticket away from her pill-popping mother and run-of-the-mill suburban life. But when she arrives on the beautiful, tradition-steeped campus of Easton, everyone is just a bit more sophisticated, a bit more gorgeous, and a lot wealthier than she ever thought possible. Reed realizes that even though she has been accepted to Easton, Easton has not accepted her. She feels like she’s on the outside, looking in.

Until she meets the Billings Girls.

They are the most beautiful, intelligent, and intensely confident girls on campus. And they know it. They hold all the power in a world where power is fleeting but means everything. Reed vows to do whatever it takes to be accepted into their inner circle.

Reed uses every part of herself—the good, the bad, the beautiful—to get closer to the Billings Girls. She quickly discovers that inside their secret parties and mountains of attitude, hanging in their designer clothing-packed closets the Billings Girls have skeletons. And they’ll do anything to keep their secrets private.

Why It Is Still On My Mind

This was one of my favorite series in high school. I loved the secrets and mystery. They don’t take very long to read and they were always just fun to read. There are about 14 in the series and I’ve read 12 so far. I started 13 but had to put it down and return it to the library. They definitely have taken a turn I was not expecting when I first started them years ago. I am hoping to finish the last two eventually. It will be great knowing how it all ends.

What a great idea for a meme. I might join in on this.

The book still on my mind is The Hallowed Ones by Laura Bickle. I keep thinking about the characters and what will happen to them and the world that Bickle created.

A friend recommended this book to me a few years ago. I started it thinking it would be your stereotypical drama-filled teen book but it s actually so good!! I was completely hooked on the series!

A book that is still on my mind despite having read it a while ago is Fire by Kristin Cashore. 🙂

I had never paid much attention to these books before but after I finished reading Shadowlands by Kate Brian I looked her up to see if she had written anything else and discovered she had this whole series! Now I want to read them =)

I’ve read about the first five or six in this series and I always meant to go back and read the rest but I got side tracked by so many other books once I started blogging. I shall have to go back one of these days to see where the series goes. I would suggest trying Megan Meade’s Guide to the McGowan Boys because it was a great read by this same author!
