Summary from Goodreads:
This is what happened…
I met him at the candy store.
He turned and smiled at me and I was surprised enough to smile back. This was not a children’s candy store, mind you–this was the kind of place you went to buy expensive imported chocolate truffles for your boss’s wife because you felt guilty for having sex with him when you were both at a conference in Milwaukee.
Hypothetically speaking, of course.
I’ve been hit on plenty of times, mostly by men with little finesse who thought what was between their legs made up for what they lacked between their ears.
Sometimes I went home with them anyway, just because it felt good to want and be wanted, even if it was mostly fake.
The problem with wanting is that it’s like pouring water into a vase full of stones. It fills you up before you know it, leaving no room for anything else. I don’t apologize for who I am or what I’ve done in–or out–of bed.
I have my job, my house and my life, and for a long time I haven’t wanted anything else.
Until Dan. Until now.
432 Kindle pages of pure hotness!! My friend Chris had been pushing me to read this book forever!!! She loaned it to me and after reading two chapters, I bought the damn thing myself. I found myself wanting to highlight quotes from the entire book and you just can’t do that with a loaned book.
The mysteriousness was so thick in this story I found myself second guessing, rereading, and biting my fingernails (which I never do BTW) from cover to cover!! Dan and Elle (Ella) had me turned into a bundle of nerves from the get go!! The meet, the bar scene, the restaurant… holy freaking cow!!! I honestly think this is the first book where the girl actually doesn’t want a relationship and the guy does. I know Elle had some issues with relationships, but sheesh girl… give it up… Oh that’s right she did!!! Bwahahaha!!!
Lots of issues and past angst to put me in a tailspin. Elle’s family issues, her relationship issues, the neighbor kid, and just her idiotic ways about how she thinks of herself and men in general were really starting to piss me off… I know I know there’s dark issues being dealt with here… and we all know it takes 20+ chapters to clear that up, but holy hell I wanted to clock that bitch of a mother Ella has and tell her to pull her head out of her ass on several occasions!!! Now Dan on the other hand, Me amore’!! Loved Loved Loved him! He was mysterious, hot, loving, and just plain old awesome!!!
The book was effortless to read and flowed very nicely. It’s only my first Megan Hart book, but I’m sure I’ll like whatever else she has to offer, she’s a great writer!!! I was never bored or felt like it dragged on and there seemed to always be something going on that had me in stitches!!! For me there really were no high or low points, only because the entire book seemed like a high point for me, never a dull moment at all!!!
