Oh boy! This book was entertaining but there were times when I found Ruby just outright annoying. To an extent, I just did not get it. I get that Ruby needed to see a therapist and believe me I understand it. The poor girl went through a lot in a very short amount of time. I’ve made it out of high school and I do remember those days. I have to say though that I don’t think I had friends as bad as the friends that Ruby has. Really this is what did the book in for me. If I don’t enjoy the characters in a book, I don’t enjoy the book.
The story line is plausible and one that should endear Ruby to our hearts. To be honest, I just wanted to throttle her. Maybe my teenage years were a bit different than others but had those been my friends I wouldn’t have spent too much time worrying about them. (Probably easy to say from the vantage point of an adult.) I just didn’t feel that there was enough of anything going on. We covered a year in school with Ruby and the entire story focused around one unknown event. Once we learn about the big event there’s only a few chapters left. It felt really rushed and there wasn’t enough of a resolution to satisfy me.
Overall, it was complete fluff that didn’t 100% satisfy. I may or may not continue with the series. It wasn’t that bad but it wasn’t that great either.
