The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielsen was exactly what I needed to get my reading back on track! It’s a young adult fantasy with just enough of an adult plot that almost anyone can pick up this book and enjoy it! Sage has been living it tough for awhile trying to help his orphanage make ends meet. He’s known hunger and fear and he’s learned to fight or be taken. Then one day Sage is sold from his orphanage into the care of a gentleman. Sage’s life has taught him that he should be leery of such patronage. No one wants something for nothing and they certainly don’t pay for it.

Before Sage knows what is happening he is embroiled in a scheme that could kill him if not have him arrested for political treason. Sage must do his best to keep himself on top of things and two steps ahead of the others around him. I really enjoyed Sage’s character and the secondary characters really added to the story. I enjoyed all of them…..well, almost all of them.

The False Prince by Jennifer A Nielsen is one of those books that is difficult to review because you don’t want to give too much away and ruin it for future readers. What I can say is that I really enjoyed the characters, the setting, the plot line, story arc, and the ending (which is always essential to me). I can also say that the only reason this book is not a 5 star read is because I had what I consider the biggest reveal nailed before I finished Chapter One. Jennifer A Nielsen did a fantastic job with the entire book and I can’t wait to read the second book!
