Summary from Goodreads:
First loves, dark pasts, and fast cars collide in this high-octane adventure.
Eva Lynn Rodgers, the daughter of a mechanic, grew up with a need for speed. So did her best friend, and later boyfriend, Nathaniel Vellanova. But when Eva left the drizzling rain of Portland, Oregon, for a high-powered career in New York, she left both Nathaniel and her past behind.
Now Eva’s back, and her BMW—like her life in general—could use a little love. Her new mechanic is the right man for the job, but he’s got some scores to settle with the girl who peeled out for the East Coast when he needed her most.
It’s time for Eva and Nathaniel to confront their demons. Passionate and dangerous sparks ignite as Nathaniel’s brutal youth rises up and pulls Eva Lynn back to him—forging a bond that, this time, won’t be denied.
I have an addiction to hot men, fast cars, and romance being mixed all in one book so when Becky asked me to review her book I was all over it. Plus I had already read her other book and liked that one so I knew Becky’s newest book was a good bet for me to read and enjoy.
The characters were the biggest draw of this book for me. I loved Eva from the beginning, she is tough, driven, smart, and not afraid to do what she wants. She is the editor of a magazine in the small town she grew up in, but the only reason she came back to this small town is so she can take care of her father who has cancer. She has been gone a long time and she has forgotten one very important thing about the town of her past, it holds secrets and one man who always had her heart. This one man just happens to be Nate, a sexy auto mechanic who now owns his own garage and part of a hot night club in town. It also just so happens to be he specializes in the type of car Eva drives and when her car breaks down and she has to go to his garage, the sparks will fly.
I loved watching these two banter and argue with each other. Every time they were on the page they would light it up with their disgust yet passion for one another. Either one of them wants to be the first to cave in and say they want each other and it is so fun to watch this happen to couples in books. This is actually my favorite plot of romance to read about. I don’t know what it is but I just love when characters can’t get along and don’t want to fall for each other yet they slowly start to overcome fears of the past to find out if they could ever love one another again.
Overall, I enjoyed watching Eva and Nate on screen so much that I finished this whole book in one day. I couldn’t help but wait for the moments where Nate and Eva would give in to passion and have a steamy scene or where they would work things out. I loved watching Nate’s possessive nature and Eva try to fight him to be her own person. I know I have been rambling on about Nate and Eva as if other parts of the book didn’t exist. There is a great mystery that takes place in the story relating to Nate’s father and that brings in an element of worry and stress because you never knew what Nate’s excon of a father was going to do to any one of them. So I enjoyed all elements of the story and my only downside to the book is that I want more! I wanted more time with Nate and Eva and I can only hope that Banks writes more about them in another book.
Becky Banks grew up, like the generations of Bankses before her, in the Hawaiian Islands. With the Islands as her roots, Becky was raised within the time-honored tradition of “talking story” amid a backdrop of grassy fields, blue waters, and cloud-clad mountains. She moved to the mainland after high school to attend Oregon State University, where she studied forestry, natural resources, and science education.
She lives in Portland, Oregon, with her husband Keith.
Becky’s first novel, The Legend of Lady MacLaoch, received Night Owl Reviews’ Top Pick Award and achieved #8 on the Amazon Bestsellers list for Historical Romance
