One choice can transform you–or it can destroy you. But every choice has consequences, and as unrest surges in the factions all around her, Tris Prior must continue trying to save those she loves–and herself–while grappling with haunting questions of grief and forgiveness, identity and loyalty, politics and love.
Tris’s initiation day should have been marked by celebration and victory with her chosen faction; instead, the day ended with unspeakable horrors. War now looms as conflict between the factions and their ideologies grows. And in times of war, sides must be chosen, secrets will emerge, and choices will become even more irrevocable–and even more powerful. Transformed by her own decisions but also by haunting grief and guilt, radical new discoveries, and shifting relationships, Tris must fully embrace her Divergence, even if she does not know what she may lose by doing so.
My Thoughts:

Insurgent took what was set up in Divergent and made it better. Don’t get me wrong, Divergent was a GREAT book. It’s just that Insurgent took all the information that we were given in Divergent and expands upon it. We learn more about the different factions. There is more action. After all, at the end of Divergent, the factions were on the edge of war. There is also an air of mystery around the whole plot. Apparently the Erudite want some information and will stop at nothing to get to it.

The story line in Insurgent kept me engaged. I truly enjoyed it. Veronica Roth spins her story effortlessly. It really does flow quite well. I never found myself getting stuck in the book. It pretty much kept my attention the entire time. There were a few instances where I was just heartsick. Some events that took place in the book (that I don’t want to spoil for you) made me suck in my breath and brought tears to my eyes. The ending of Insurgent is probably the biggest cliffhanger that I have read in 2012. At the time I immediately went to Veronica Roth’s website to see what the release date for Insurgent would be. Not expected until September 2013. That is about a year from now. There is so much that I want to discuss but I am really unwilling to giveaway anything and possibly ruin an excellent book. I think what it boils down to is that you need to go out and get this book! Devour it and then let me know what you think! 🙂

  1. I liked Insurgent more than Divergent. I thought it addressed most of the issues I had from the first book (I didn’t dislike either one of them). Great review!

  2. I need to read this series! I own both books and I know everyone raves but I guess I keep putting it off because I don’t want all the hype to ruin it for me because right now I expect these books to be pretty perfect.

Thanks for the great review, I hope you enjoy book three.

    1. You do! I will say that it was not the end all and be all that some readers have lauded it to be. I did enjoy it though. If you don’t have extremely high expectations it won’t disappoint you.
