The Hunt (The Hunt, #1)

Synopsis: Don’t Sweat. Don’t Laugh. Don’t draw attention to yourself. And most of all, whatever you do, do not fall in love with one of them.
Gene is different from everyone else around him. He can’t run with lightning speed, sunlight doesn’t hurt him and he doesn’t have an unquenchable lust for blood. Gene is a human, and he knows the rules. Keep the truth a secret. It’s the only way to stay alive in a world of night—a world where humans are considered a delicacy and hunted for their blood.
When he’s chosen for a once in a lifetime opportunity to hunt the last remaining humans, Gene’s carefully constructed life begins to crumble around him. He’s thrust into the path of a girl who makes him feel things he never thought possible—and into a ruthless pack of hunters whose suspicions about his true nature are growing. Now that Gene has finally found something worth fighting for, his need to survive is stronger than ever—but is it worth the cost of his humanity? – via GoodReads

What I Liked: I love reading about vampires in a post-apocalyptic world. The author is brilliant and has a way of drawing the reader into the story. I had a hard time putting the book down. It was a really excellent read. You are drawn into this terrifying world where one mistake could mean the difference between life and death. I felt drawn to the characters, especially Gene and Ashley. I felt their pain and loneliness. Gene and Ashley are strong characters and learned to survive in a world where all hope is lost. This is the first book in a series. I have never read anything by this author before and if his books are anything like The Hunt, I am really looking forward to the next book in the series.

What I Didn’t: I didn’t like how the book ended. It kept you in suspense and wanting more.

Recommended: Any reader who likes a good vampire story.

Avoid If: You don’t like vampires or horror stories.

I'm a sucker for a good vamp story, but I have to admit I hate anything resembling a cliffhanger! Still, I'll keep it on my TBR list!
