Summary from Goodreads:
Laurel now knows the truth: Yuki is a rare Winter faerie, the most powerful—and deadly—of all, and she is working with Klea to conquer and destroy Avalon. With Tamani, David, and Chelsea by her side, Laurel prepares for a fight she never thought she would have to face.
Filled with heart-pounding action, sweeping romance, and higher stakes at every turn, Destined is the series conclusion that readers have been clamoring for—with a twist that will leave them breathless.
Tamani looked at her gravely, and reached up to touch her hair behind her ear. He hesitated for an instant, then his hands found the sides of her face, pulling her to him. He didn’t kiss her, just held her face to his, their foreheads resting together, their noses almost touching.
She hated how much it felt like good-bye.
I have fallen in love with this series gradually over the course of the first three books. Now I knew that Destined would be the last book and I was already heartbroken before I even read the story. I knew I loved all of our main characters and that although I knew who I liked of the love triangle that I liked the other guy just as much! I knew this was going to be a hard book to read because I just love Avalon, the characters, and the unique elements of the fae. Plus lets face it my track record with the final book in any series has not been good. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was Deathly Boring, Bloodrose ruined everything I believed the characters stood for, and Mockingjay..well lets not even go there. However, you can see that final books are often difficult, to me it has not been lack of love for the characters it just always seems the the author writes something that upsets me or doesn’t live up to what I want. Well all of those can be moved aside because Pike did not even come close to letting me down!
This book was a rush from the first page as the cliffhanger from Illusions is fully explored in the beginning of this book. From here on out there is little time for the characters to sit and rest because there is just an epic battle happening. Of course the battle has always been about Avalon so our lovely characters end up there, which I love! I loved Spells because I finally got to see Avalon and experience everything that world has to offer and I can’t even fully explain my happiness of returning there in Destined! Of course I knew our characters would be back there because Pike told me that Avalon was a big part in book four after me telling her at many book signings that I needed more Avalon!
Aside from Avalon the characters are wonderful. Life just would not be the same without Laurel, Tamani, David and Chelsea. In this book we certainly see all four of them rise to the occasion and really fight for what they believe in. They fight for what is right even if that goes slightly against who they are as a character. I loved watching these four grow and change for the better during all the books and Destined just cemented my belief in all four of them. I know that even though this series is now over that I will one day need to re-read the entire series because these special characters are never going to leave my heart.
Overall, I hope I did not give too much of the plot away, tried to steer clear of that since this is the final book in a series that you may or may not have read. If you are among the readers who has not yet ventured into Avalon to find the fae then I simply say what on Earth are you waiting for?! Pike delivers at every turn and this is certainly not a series you will regret spending time with. At the end of the final pages of this book I knew I was in love and that Pike brought something special to the table. She changed my belief in teen books having no real end goal with her final pages taken from the point of view of one special character. Yes, folks I did cry because it was sad to see but also fitting and beautiful. Now all I have to do is sit impatiently waiting to gobble up Pike’s newest book which I have heard is suppose to be about reincarnation and lovers who belong together, could be entirely wrong so don’t quote me. Sounds EPIC. Oh and 5 hearts for me, as if you couldn’t figure that out!
