Synopsis: Miss Linnet Berry Thrynne is a Beauty . . . Naturally, she’s betrothed to a Beast.

Piers Yelverton, Earl of Marchant, lives in a castle in Wales where, it is rumored, his bad temper flays everyone he crosses. And rumor also has it that a wound has left the earl immune to the charms of any woman.

Linnet is not just any woman.

She is more than merely lovely: her wit and charm brought a prince to his knees. She estimates the earl will fall madly in love—in just two weeks.

Yet Linnet has no idea of the danger posed to her own heart by a man who may never love her in return.
If she decides to be very wicked indeed . . . what price will she pay for taming his wild heart? – via GoodReads

What I Loved: It’s a Beauty and the Beast retelling, do I need to say more? I went into this James novel knowing it wasn’t a historical romance and enjoyed the story immensely. Piers and Linette are so much fun together. Granted at first all they did was argue (although they did so wittily and I didn’t mind).

Piers is a brilliant doctor with and arrogant temperament. He also has some daddy issues. Linette brings balance to his life and while he is happy to send her away on his terms when those terms are changed he realizes what he had. It was such a tender part of the book. It’s worth the read for that plot point alone.

What I Could Have Lived Without: To be honest, I have no major complaints about When Beauty Tamed the Beast. It was a great retelling of a story I already love.

Recommended For: Readers who are looking for an escape from reality to a historical time with a pinch of humor.

Avoid If: Fairy tale retellings and historicals set your nerves on edge.

  1. I have yet to read the Cinderella retelling she did so I haven't yet gone out to pick up this book but I'm hoping I'm really going to like the mix of historical and fairy tale retelling.

Thanks for the great review, glad you are liking these books. 🙂

    1. The Cinderella retelling was pretty good. It was different and not quite what I expected but I did enjoy it overall. I do recommend the series if you enjoy fairy tale retellings!

    1. Thank you Dalene! I'm very much looking forward to The Duke is Mine which is the newest in the series. I'm not sure if there will be more after that or not. I hope so!
