Title: The Maze Runner
Author: James Dashner
Publisher: Delacorte Press
Publication Date: Oct 2009
Classification: YA Novel
Challenge: None

Summary from Goodreads:

When Thomas wakes up in the lift, the only thing he can remember is his first name. His memory is blank. But he’s not alone. When the lift’s doors open, Thomas finds himself surrounded by kids who welcome him to the Glade—a large, open expanse surrounded by stone walls.

Just like Thomas, the Gladers don’t know why or how they got to the Glade. All they know is that every morning the stone doors to the maze that surrounds them have opened. Every night they’ve closed tight. And every 30 days a new boy has been delivered in the lift.

Thomas was expected. But the next day, a girl is sent up—the first girl to ever arrive in the Glade. And more surprising yet is the message she delivers.

Thomas might be more important than he could ever guess. If only he could unlock the dark secrets buried within his mind.

I really liked the first book but The Scorch Trials was just really hard for me to read. It was TOO intense for me and just stressed me out. I’m curious about what happens but I’m not sure if I can handle the third one! I’ll probably force myself just so I know but geez, talk about stressful!

    Sounds great!
I like reads that suck you in (they never seem like work). I know what you mean about audiobook narration – I tried to ‘read’ The Dark Divine that way and I still haven’t totally finished it… 🙂

I liked the first book but didn’t love it. Something about the way the author expressed character emotions annoyed me, and yet the plot really caught my interest. I was totally wrapped up in the characters and their dillemma and wanted to solve it right along with them.

I have this sitting on my shelf I might need to pick this up now. It was cool to see both of your opinions. Thanks.

I loved this book! I loved learning about the Maze too, and Newt was one of my favourite characters as well. I’ve never really like Teresa that much, and even less so in The Scorch Trials. I still haven’t read The Death Cure yet, but I’m looking forward to it. Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Glad you both enjoyed it :).
