Samantha Logan is turning 30. She feels like a failure. Sam tried to make it in the Big Apple as an artist. Not one of her paintings sold. Even her relationship with a spoiled rich man has failed and he’s not taking good-bye well. What Sam wants most is to move from New York City to her grandmother’s house by the ocean. Nonnie welcomes her back with open arms. Not much has changed in Sam’s small hometown except a handsome man has moved into his family home next door.
Malcolm is of the Amoveo people. He belongs to the Eagle clan. Amoveo only have 30 years to find their mate. If they don’t then their powers start to wane until they die or find their mate. Malcolm has known for some time that Sam is his mate but he is going to have a harder time than most Amoveo. Sam doesn’t know anything about her heritage. She is half human and half Amoveo. Her parents were murdered by the ancient Amoveo enemy, the Caedo, when she was an infant. Sam believes it was an accident. No one is sure how or if Sam’s Amoveo powers will manifest. It is up to Malcolm to explain all of this to Sam. As if this wasn’t enough for one person to handle, the Caedo have targeted Sam and Malcolm must keep her safe. But the Caedo are not working alone and their new ally gives them an unfair advantage.
Unleashed was a great read! I really enjoyed the tension throughout the book. If it wasn’t Sam and Malcolm’s relationship it was trying to keep themselves safe from the enemy. For the most part I really enjoyed Sam and Malcolm. Sam seemed to get very angry with Malcolm, I thought at times she was being unfair, and Malcolm used his nickname for Sam, mia piccola lupa, too often for my tastes. These are very minor complaints compared to the chemistry between them.
I did peg the baddie when he was introduced in his “sane” form and who his partner was. While this took some of the edge off, it was still suspenseful for me because I wanted to see how the other characters would react. I even had the couple for the next book figured out (I can’t wait!!). This may disappoint some readers but it didn’t detract from my enjoyment of Unleashed.
Sara Humphreys has set up a great world with some pretty awesome people. I really look forward to reading her books in future!
