A Night To Surrender by Tessa Dare
September ‘On the Shelves’ Pick!
Tessa Dare begins her new series, Spindle Cove, will a stellar romantic novel. Hilarious and charming, A Night to Surrender is a fabulous read!
Susanna Finch has created the perfect retreat for misplaced young ladies…a place free of male influence. The quiet and harmonious town of Spindle Cove is a place any young girl would love to escape the perils and chaos of the ton. At least until Victor Bramwell walked into town. He has been named the new Earl of Rycliff and ordered to gather a militia. While this may sound like a simple mission, Susanna must do her best to make it as difficult as possible. While these two fight a battle of wills, it may be the battle of their hearts that takes precedent and awards the greatest victory.
You have to love heroes like Victor Bramwell. Strongly opinionated, stubborn to a fault and facing feelings of inadequacy, he was a spellbinding character. Victor was interesting to read about because it seemed his heart led him in all matters of life. Suffering lingering effects from an old war wound, he pushed his body to the limits in order to lead a militia once again. It wasn’t about pride or glory, but about being a part of what he loved again. Then when it came to Susanna Finch, he tried to use logic to out smart her but it was his heart that won out yet again.
If you need an example of a bluestocking heroine, look no further than Susanna Finch. She was certainly a woman of many talents and highly intelligent. If anyone could give Victor a run for his money, it is this woman. Susanna was not my favorite heroine, if I’m being honest. Sometimes her assertiveness was a little too much. She was the high matriarch of this all female society and in some ways I felt it went to her head. Of course, she does have a softer side that is revealed later in the novel, and she becomes more endearing for it.
Regardless, I don’t think there could have been better match for Victor. Simply because their banter during the blossom of their ‘love/hate’ relationship was highly entertaining. On one page their harmless flirting was sexy and on another their teasing was laugh-out-loud funny. It created absolutely delightful characters and built a comfortable relationship. You could see how Susanna need a man like Victor to match her wit and spirit and Victor needed someone just as strong and worthy as him. While the romance in A Night to Surrender starts out with clashing characters, when their romance finally brings them together, it is explosive. Their relationship is passionate and stunning.
Tessa Dare has one of the most lyrical and entertaining voices in historical romance. Her characters are charming and the dialogue is hilarious on one page and seductive on the next. It’s easy to see why you can’t put her books down. Once you start reading A Night to Surrender you won’t ever want this enjoyable journey to end. If you want a guaranteed fun and delightful historical romance, you can count on Tessa Dare to deliver.
