Title: Epic Fail
Author: Claire Lazebnik
Publisher: HarperCollins
Publication Date: Aug 2, 2011
Classification: YA Novel
Challenge: Outdo Yourself
Summary from Goodreads:
At Coral Tree Prep in Los Angeles, who your parents are can make or break you. Case in point:

• As the son of Hollywood royalty, Derek Edwards is pretty much prince of the school—not that he deigns to acknowledge many of his loyal subjects.

• As the daughter of the new principal, new-girl-on-campus Elise Benton isn’t exactly on everyone’s must-sit-next-to-at-lunch list.

When Elise’s beautiful sister catches the eye of the prince’s best friend, Elise gets to spend a lot of time with Derek, making her the envy of every girl. Except she refuses to fall for any of his rare smiles and instead warms up to his enemy, the surprisingly charming social outcast Webster Grant. But in this hilarious tale of fitting in and flirting, not all snubs are undeserved, not all celebrity brats are bratty, and pride and prejudice can get in the way of true love for only so long.

My Thoughts:
In this contemporary romance we get a close look at a girl named Elise and her three other sisters. Elise and her family have just moved to this exclusive prep school from a small town on the east coast. As if fitting in wasn’t hard enough try to do it around teenagers who are sons/daughters of movie stars, add the bonus of Elise’s mom being the new school principal and you have a very bad combination. It was like a first day of school from someone’s nightmare but Elise will just have to pull through if she wants to fit in and yet still stay the same girl.

It was great to see Elise as she navigated this new preppy school while all the while trying to remain true to who she really is. We get to see her trying to fit in with Derek and Chase since Chase has decided to date her older sister. Elise doesn’t like Derek from the beginning, he is stubborn, non-social, and rude to the point of almost being classified as being a jerk. Elise is simply putting up with Derek because in the mean time she meets a boy named Webster who instantly seems charming to her. There is a past between Derek and Webster that no one seems to know about though. This leaves us wondering just who to believe in this past fight between two guys that are fighting for Elise’s heart.

Overall I really did like Elise, she is witty, smart, and confident as she treads the waters of this new school. Trust me Elise is such a great character, she will leave you laughing with what she says under her breath about her situations. I really liked the whole storyline. I felt that although not all of the characters were awesome, that the storyline really did shine. I’m not going to tell you who Elise ends up with because that is for you to figure out but I did enjoy what happened even though I could have predicted it from a mile away. Overall I would give this story 4 hearts, it was a cute contemporary story with a great female lead and real life situations that any high school girl could experience.

This sounds like a really cute read! I like how it's not love at first sight, and that she actually doesn't like Derek to begin with; that makes a change from the load of "insta-love" we've been getting lately. Glad you enjoyed it, I'll have to keep an eye for this one! The title is awesome too :).
