Flirting with the Grave...

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unholy partnership.

In exchange for finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner - are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her newfound status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side . . . and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

4.5 Stars

Cat never fit in with anyone since she was born as half-vampire half-human. She has been hunting and killing vampires for a few years now, it pleases her and her mother. It was another typical night for Cat when she killed another vampire, having such success she went back to the same club to look for the vampire that got away. The only thing she doesn’t know is the vampire that got away isn’t freshly undead like the vampires she has been killing, he is over 200 years old and he knows what he is doing. The skilled vampire decides to jump Cat before she can jump him and kill him. Cat realizes quickly that she might possibly lose her life since she is chained to a wall in a cave with a vampire.

This skilled vampire named Bones decides to strike a bargain with Cat, she gets to keep her life if she helps him kill more vampires. Cat is stunned to find a vampire who wants to kill his own kind, she obviously wants to stay alive so she agrees to his deal. Bones slowly lets Cat help him track down a blood slave ring that has been taking young girls and offering them up to the highest bidder for dinner. It will take everything these two have in order to track down the ring leader and bring about justice.

Honestly I’m in awe of this story and the characters, the plot has action, mystery, and of course romance. It is the perfect combination and after having books that have been underwhelming me for weeks I’m happy to have found one that is keeping my attention. I love how Cat is this strong fierce woman who will not take no for an answer, yet she has this other side of herself that is insecure and lonely. Bones, oh boy how do I even describe him, he is strong, intelligent, and loyal with an English accent to kill for. Bones has easily made my top five favorite male characters from adult romance books.

The story is simply stunning, one moment we are in the middle of an action scene and the next we are in some action of a different kind. Yes the steam was pretty good in this book and I have heard it gets even better, I have been dying to read this chapter 21 everyone talks about. The badassness (I’m sure this isn’t a word but play along) of Cat and Bones and the fight scenes are great. The romance between our couple is a love/hate relationship where one minute they are beating each other up physically and emotionally and another second they are making up and complimenting each other.

Overall I would give this story 4.75 and yes I know that is not one of my ratings. The reason this hovers between a great book and an awesome all out love it book is for one simple reason. Bones although I love him to pieces seems to have fallen for Cat just a little too quickly for my taste, this is a 5+ book series and I don’t think they needed to fall in love so quickly. I have never been one to believe in fated love or love at first sight and I do not enjoy books or people who claim they had love at first sight or within a few days of knowing each other. All in all this is a great story that will grip your emotions and attention right from the start and keep you along for the wild ride.
